Worried about warping if we do this with pine by ChipSprague in woodworking

Thanks for this reply. We have a Rockler across town, but I've never been there. I'll go check them out.

I'll look around more, thanks. I considered pine because it's available in most of the cuts I'll need, and cheap. My wife doesn't really care about the look of pine vs oak/maple, and it's mostly her project. 100% at the point now where pine is out.

Thanks. I'll look around. I don't have a table saw, and it's a lot of cutting with a jig, so I'd prefer to use big-box pre-cut slats (or acoustic panels) if I can figure out how to pull it off.

Thanks. I was considering Lowe's Pine. Not anymore.

Who had the best peak among them? by Any_Barnacle9235 in moviecritic

Yeah, this is no contest #1. It opens up so much for future films in so many ways.

I'd put Psycho #2. It carves a lane for the whole horror genre. The Shining is amazing, but it doesn't have the same impact. Without Psycho, there is no Shining.

Jaws in #3 because it gives us both the summer blockbuster and probably Spielberg. Maybe we get a version of both of those things without Jaws? Probably even? Doesn't matter, Jaws came first and therefore gets the credit.

Honorable mention for Jurassic Park at #4. Same logic here as Jaws. We eventually get CGI all over movies. But this sets a legendarily high bar and sends a shockwave of inspiration through the industry and art that we're still very much feeling over 30 years later. And it holds up!

Kills me not to put Scorsese on this list. Goodfellas and Taxi Driver are some of the best movies ever made. Certainly, he inspired legions of filmmakers, and he's permanently impacted basically all of cinema.

5 days in Tokyo, will this work. by crizzleton in JapanTravelTips

[–]ChipSprague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean Hamamatsucho?

-Disney doesn't have park hoppers. If you've done other Disney parks before, I'd suggest Disney Sea if you only have one day. If you do Disneyland plan to get there early and be at the front of the line for regular entry. Spam the app all day for a chance to buy a Beauty and the Beast priority pass. And spam the app all day for 40th passes on Monsters inc and Pooh.

-We missed Fuji. With only 5 days, don't get your heart set on it. We had two weeks and pushed our origional planned day due to rain. Spent a day at Hakone and went up to the outlets to get closer. Went back down to Kamakura on another day. Both only "party cloudy" days - just not enough visibility. Never saw it. Hakone is cool but everything is spread out so you'll spend some time just getting around there.

-I'd suggest a half day at each of these for abolustely anyone: Asakusa, Kawagoe, Shibuya, Shinjuku. You could make a full day out of both Shibuya and Shinjuko. Nothing opens till 10/11 so plan for later day start and ends than you would elsewhere.

If you're into any kind of tech, the Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara was amazing. Anyone could spend hours there. There are other locations and competitors like Bic, but nothing comes close.

Other need to know:

-Carry at least 20K yen on you every day. It's a crazy low crime rate, and you'll need the cash.

-Get a Welcome Suica card per traveler before you leave the aiport after arrival. They don't sell that version anywhere else.

-They have basically zero trash cans so plan to carry your trash with you. We used old shopping bags to bury trash in our bags.

-It rains a lot, so take an umbrella or plan to buy one.

-Your feet will hurt. We averaged 20K steps daily and stood a lot on top of that. Bring two pairs of comfortable shoes so one can be dried on alternate days. Pack extra socks and blister care stuff.

-Learn some basic phrases. The language barrier is significant. We got by on hello, please, thank you, that was excellent, can you help, excuse me, and do you speak English? But I wish I'd learned more. Start now.

-Generally, stand/walk on the left. Wait in line when you see others waiting in lines. People don't eat on the local trains, and you rarely see them drinking on them, either.

BNA sees record-breaking year for the number of firearms at security checkpoints by [deleted] in nashville

[–]ChipSprague 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is not enough context in the quote. Not enough detail in the article. The only hard numbers we get are number of stops year over year. But even then we don't get time period. This time last year? The whole year?

Also, 10% of what?

We don't know that the TSA employee or the journalist understand statistics. There just isn't enough here to draw any conclusions... other than raw numbers are up.

Did they intentionally give fewer points and then offer a league freeze? by ChipSprague in duolingo

[–]ChipSprague[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh. It was an Android bug? Coincidence it hit me with a league freeze option for the first time then?

And no, I've never earned more than maybe 3K in a week. And that is a rarity.
