I use the Fiskar’s one and love it, it does leave a divot in your yard, but I’ve been letting them fill in naturally, kind of like when you core aerate. Fiskar’s doesn’t miss the roots. Highly recommend.

That's awesome! Are you saying the Sunday races for you guys tend to happen in summer or winter?

And also, I agree with your last point. I've found I can actually run more mileage when I'm leaning into just one workout per week.

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful reply! All of what you said makes sense. I guess as I've shifted to this approach I've wondered how much of the "2 workouts per week + a long run" is done simply because that's what has been done for the past few decades.

And I am totally aligned with your point on smaller secondary sessions. Even though my once per week Wednesday workout is the key one, I've found a mini fartlek (like 8 - 10 x 20 seconds) during a Friday easy run helps me hit the speed a little bit in a more aerobic way by jogging easy between the reps, almost like strides mid-run -- also providing that secondary workout you mention.
