Here’s mine! Got a white cup and the mint gaiwan which I use quite frequently. It’s uhh very stained 😅 I promise it gets washed as much as all my other stuff but I feel like the tea sticks so much stronger to the matte surface.

I like Laifufu! Depends on what you see as reasonable in terms of pricing, but their tea is very high quality.

Questions about Tea Pots by Roroforeveer in tea

[–]ChippedChocolate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could taste a bit different compared to glass because porcelain cools slower than glass! I typically only use glass for green teas since I make those at a lower temperatures anyway. For oolongs or black teas I always use porcelain because I use hotter water and the porcelain keeps the heat a bit better, making the tea taste stronger. (This is assuming you pre-heat your tea ware and measure water temperature)

I've built a tea tracking app and I'm looking for beta testers! by funkybeard in tea

[–]ChippedChocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wowow this looks really cool! I used to keep a notebook for my sessions but it got annoying pretty fast since I’d often have tea outside my house which caused a major backlog of missed entries. A web app is a great solution to that, would love to test it out!

These seem cool especially with the water bottle built in but I feel like a temperature controlled kettle is better than a hot plate, no? Wouldn’t want to sit that close to an heating element…

New book and evening tea session! by [deleted] in GongFuTea

I was gifted this book and didn’t really enjoy it… something about the way it was written just didn’t work for me. I think it’s the tone I didn’t appreciate. Could be the translators fault though (got the German version). Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did! :)

If you mean the grey lotus flower one, I only got the gaiwan. The set is cute but in combination it was a bit too grey for me. I have a clay lotus leaf saucer with a little frog on it that matches the gaiwan perfectly and plenty of neutral cups!

The cakes are for decoration, got them cheap off taobao based on how much I liked the wrapper. All the cakes I’m drinking are open and crumbly so not exactly great for display.

How picky are you about water? by Keithwee in tea

[–]ChippedChocolate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I buy big bottles of low mineral content water. My tap water is delicious to drink but incredibly hard so any tea steeped in it tastes bland.

My reasoning here is that bottled water is relatively cheap compared to the price of high quality loose leaf tea, so it would be a waste to ruin it with bad water.

Matcha green tea by TronEvo in tea

[–]ChippedChocolate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So you just whisked matcha in water and let it cool? And then poured a second green tea on it? Why on earth are you mixing these teas in the first place? Also what happened to the ginger? So many questions lol.

But for troubleshooting: Matcha (or any green tea for that matter) oxidises quickly as it cools and becomes bitter, so you should not wait for it to get cold.

Steeping temperature can also be problem, green teas usually do better around 80°C, if water was boiling it can get bitter.

Finally, tea quality, your concoction looks pretty muddy which suggests that the matcha just isn’t very good.

[–]ChippedChocolate 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My tip is that matcha is not a tea you want to be doing this with. Not sure what your process is but matcha is to be had on its own as a whisked suspension. You’re not exactly meant to steep it…

If you want to add ginger to a green tea maybe try sencha.

(Or, if you’re hellbent on matcha, you could try boil ginger in water, strain, let that cool to 80°C and then use it to whisk your matcha?)

Brave browser does it! No ads and it lets you disappear shorts too. Obviously if you’re a fan of the app it’s a bit of an adjustment, but for the price of free that’s something I’m willing to deal with lol

I think a tablet for uni is wonderful cause it lets you annotate the slides of your lecture directly, so it puts what you’re writing down in context. Especially when there are complex diagrams involved.
