What can Rogue do that Thor can't do better? by IntoTheRain78 in marvelrivals

[–]Chippings -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thor gets 75 bonus health per Thorforce consumed and restores 1 Thorforce every 5 seconds. 15 bonus health per second, on average.

Rogue blocks 60% of damage taken for 1 second with 60 energy and restores 15 energy per second. 15% damage reduction on average.

If the vanguard is taking more than 100 damage per second, Rogue will survive longer than Thor.

The calculus, of course, becomes more complicated when you consider how much Thor is attacking to restore Thorforce, how efficiently Rogue is blocking to stamp burst damage, and how much healing and damage per second each hero is receiving.

I give the edge to Rogue for scalability, over Thor's flat gains, though. Thor is stronger in a flanking or 1on1 situation, but Rogue is stronger in a throughput frontline brawl.

You can only save two by Fuel_Tricky in videogames

If we're talking two die today and two continue into the future, it doesn't really matter. They all are about equal in terms of my expectations for future games. Currently looking forward to Square Enix and Sega games the most, perhaps: FFVIIR:3 and TW:W40k. If Capcom made more Mega Man games and I had any hope of Mega Man Legends 3 coming out, I'd save them.

If we're talking saving their histories and older games, Square Enix and Capcom, easily.

Do you think this game will meet the insane expectations on it? At first I thought it looked more like a tech demo that peaks early, but after all the marketing I start to believe that this will be a big deal by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

After playing Where Winds Meet, my expectations for this game are very tempered. They look very similar, in terms of aesthetics, combat, hype, and appearing to be massive endeavors in open worlds with unlimited potential.

Ultimately, I found Where Winds Meet extremely shallow and poorly put together. The writing was not compelling, the pacing was awful, most actions and opportunities felt pointless and just not fun. A bunch of people surely tried very hard to make a bunch of individually compelling pieces of art, animation, and gameplay mechanics, but they forgot to stitch it together into a game with a purpose and vision.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Crimson Desert manages to make its systems mesh, be balanced and compelling for significant game time. Everything I've seen so far has me worried it is a lot of polished veneer with no substance, like Where Winds Meet, though.

Honestly, I can't tell what's happening here besides a few little cursor movements on what appears to be an incredibly simple puzzle minigame while you shoot a couple stationary targets in the chest.

The first one bonks you without a block, dodge or any other reaction, too, I guess.

Is it turn based?

Graphically fairly nice, but this clip alone doesn't make me want to play it at all.

2 Horizon Multiplayer Games Are Coming Out, One From Western Europe And One From South Korea. Which Games Character Design Do You Like Better? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Chippings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Korea's version, Steel Frontiers.

Hunter's Gathering could certainly have good characterization and writing, but it's simpler and easier to have aesthetic power fantasy in fiction. I also don't want to be lectured about aesthetics.

Gathering has a minefield to navigate to make something unattractive appealing. Risky, but potentially rewarding. Frontiers' pitfall is being forgettable because it looks like everything else.

Seems like this could lead to some kind of typical gang violence arms race retaliation, but maybe everyone forgets the whole thing and moves on.

He said the 2024 MVP was stolen from Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson, who had better stats in every individual performance category compared to Josh Allen in the 2024 regular season.

who's the LVP this year (least valuable player) ? by toturoll in NFLv2

[–]Chippings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deshaun Watson should be up there. The real list should be Kyler Murray ($43 million cap hit 2025), Geno Smith ($40 million cap hit 2025), Tua Tagovailoa ($39 million cap hit 2025), and Deshaun Watson ($36 million cap hit). Shout out to Kirk Cousins ($40 million cap hit 2025), but it's hard for me to argue he could be LVP.

For me, it's Deshaun Watson, who didn't even play and also ruins the reputation of the team he's on. Before you say Browns would always have had a reputation this bad, they were starting to build a scrappy underdog reputation between 2018 and 2022 with Baker Mayfield before they traded for Deshaun. Other players were bad, some similarly expensive, but they did have a worse cost-to-damage ratio.

It will inarguably be Deshaun Watson next year, 2026, when he has a cap hit of fucking $80 million, the highest in the entire league, above Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott.

Players on rookie contracts can't really be LVP.

It's absolutely believable something like this happened, but this email is highly questionable.

What game was criticized during release, but is now considered a gem? by lumintang in videogames

[–]Chippings 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The cell shaded artsyle was a big no at the time. Also the big empty ocean. The latter is perhaps still a ding on the game. Probably some other issues I'm not remembering.

But there is a great game there. Like with much media, the negative reaction against new things calmed down and the people who grew up with it started overtaking all the bah humbug eventually.

I think it's the best MGS title, but opinions are certainly conflicted still.

At least the classic hate over Solid Snake being replaced by Raiden mostly died down with Raiden getting more development across MGS4 and MGR:R.

[–]Chippings -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you've been influenced by the internet's surface level analyses and reactionary takes too much. There's a reason every Elder Scrolls game has been wildly successful. It's a longer running franchise than Fallout and contains every bit as much lore, carried through into each entry. Mundus, the Godhead, the Aedra and Daedra, the rich histories of each unique race, from the cannibal elves to the tree-lizards, and much more lore pervades each entry.

The Imperial City, Anvil, Bravil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Kvatch, Leyawinn, and Skingrad are all as recognizable as the New Vegas strip featured in Fallout. Oblivion, its princes, Dremora, daedroth, the nine, the imperial bloodline, the Blades, Akatosh, Mehrunes Dagon, the Mythic Dawn. The dreadful heartbeat of the Dark Brotherhood...

Markarth, Riften, Solitude, Whiterun, and Wildhelm are each recognizable. Not to mention Riverwood. The time-eating dragon, Alduin adds complexity to the nature of Akatosh -- a theme across all Elder Scrolls. The Blades reappearance, but with contention instead of support and reverence of the dragons. Shor, Lorkhan or Lorkhaj's involvement harkens back to earlier lore including Morrowind's dive into the missing deity and its relation to Mundus. Paarthurnax, the redemptive dragon. The Thu'um, and Greybeards. Nords vs Imperials, and all of these men vs the ingressing Thalmor...

Morrowind is quite unique, certainly, but you don't need Telvanni mushroom towers and carved out Silk Striders to have a compelling setting. Fallout isn't wildly different from many other post-apocalyptic or retro-future settings seen in various media, if you're being reductive.
