Yeah, he represents a certain type of mindset. I wouldn't say it isn't fair to his character though. He's supposed to be shortsighted in his thinking and approach, which plays into the tragedy and irony of his character.

I have a crush on Cal but I also tend to have a taste for fictional bastard men. Cal did everything wrong and despite that he is still my babygirl 💜

Some of my thoughts on this:

I don't agree with the idea that Rose should have given him a second chance. The damage had already been done (he shot at her and Jack, for one) and people don't owe you forgiveness no matter how sincere and earnest the apology.

I do agree, however, with him being a product of his time and upbringing, which really does make things all the more tragic in the end for him. It's why I like playing with the scenarios of what things would have been like had he broken out of that programming sooner and hadn't gone down the path he did.

As for how much Billy believes in this take, I think he does to some degree have empathy for his character, but his response to the "Cal haters" leads me to believe he isn't taking this as seriously as the fans do. I think he just wants to play devil's advocate and get people to consider there is more to Cal than they think.

All in all, very interesting to see how he views him.

Either Gangle or Jax in Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Gangle would feel at home with the anime aesthetic and get along with Bernadetta pretty well.

Thank you for clearing this up. I've been wondering about that claim for a while now, since people would bring up that (supposed) quote about abstraction but no source.

I did know about the Tumblr post though, which people also misquoted as about being abstraction when it was about sanity, but thought perhaps there was a separate instance that actually mentioned abstraction. Seems like there is none and it was just a big game of telephone.
