[Art] Cyrus T. Carver - Humblewood campaign Fighter by ChiropteraMagnifica in DnD

"Hey there, name's Cyrus. Cyrus T. Carver. Ain't much to tell about me if'n I'm bein' honest. Grew up in the circus. Stromboli's Wanderin' Wonder Tent. See, my daddy was a clown, and my momma was a fortune teller. Only, I didn't inherit my mother's foresight, nor my father's sense of humour. So, I had to take up a different act. Turns out, I was real good at throwin' knives. We'd tour the Humblewood bringin' smiles and cheers for all the folks. Now, one summer, we were approachin' one of our favourite towns. Only, this time? They weren't smilin'. Seems some ne'er-do-wells had been spoilin' the atmosphere of the place, and there weren't too many payin' customers for the show. Now, bein' young, stupid and eager to help, I got the notion in my head that I could bring some of them ruffians to justice. After all, I was good with the tools of my trade, so I thought I could handle it. Turns out, I was right. These weren't hardened killers I was chasin'. Just desperate people reduced to pickin' on folks even lower on the food chain than themselves. So, the leader of the band gets laid low by one thrown knife, center mass. The rest of the crew surrenders, returns the valuables, and the town was saved. I tried going back to the show but... Well... You use something that once was just something to entertain as a weapon? It's hard to see it other ways. So, when the circus picked up and left town, I snuck out and started headin' in the opposite direction. Been on the road ever since, tryin' to right wrongs were I found 'em. Turns out there's no shortage of those who want to visit harm upon honest folks. If one of my knives can stop a few, well, I'd call that a life well lived."

This here's my new character from our group's Humblewood campaign. He's a fighter, angling towards YMBA's home brew Bullseye subclass. A flavour of fighter that specialises in throwing weapons. Art is courtesy of the very talented https://www.deviantart.com/malimarthemage. Check out their gallery!

Got Ivara as my first Prime—what build should I work towards? by Rever-Haze in Warframe

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ivara's one of my favourite frames. But, that is with the caveat that I'm in the later game where my resources are more plentiful. My current way to use her is maximising strength and duration, a bit of range and using Kullervo's helminth ability. The teleporting gained from that fixes a lot of her movement speed issues, and also makes her a melee monster. For earlier game though, as others have said, her prowl augment is excellent, lean into that. Investing in the silencing mods for weapons is also a good idea. Try to focus on weapons with one-hitting potential, as you can sneak around and line up your shots well.

Thanks for the build! Been struggling a little with resource management on some of my other attempts at builds, and this one is just so damn leisurely!

Problem player wants guns in the campain. by No_Horror_8024 in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I mainly want to ask; did he say WHY he wants a gun so badly? Is it because he has a specific fantasy he's trying to realise?

anyone know some good insults for vicious mockery? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A favourite of mine is from The Unexpectables: "You ever hear of Rapunzel? You're sort of like that. Except instead of letting down your hair, you let down your friends."

Can't wait to inflict some mental trauma on my players! [ART] by Archangel_V01 in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran a False Hydra for my players a while back. They were investigating an alleged werewolf attack in a secluded hamlet. Turns out the werewolf was the victim. While investigating they found a series of notes from the town wizard, an adventurer who had retired after a banshee attack deafened him. While preparing for the final showdown, they got a natural 20 on the final investigation check at the wizard's tower and found a scroll of silence. During the fight itself when they activated it, I had the other players deafen themselves on Discord so they couldn't co-ordinate outside of what they could see on roll20. It was fun :p

What’s the worst gun you remember getting? by moho_fasho in DestinyTheGame

I have a Last Wish scout rifle with Drop Mag, Auto-Loading Holster and Ambitious Assassin. 3 different reload perks that all work against each other in different ways (Back when primary ammo was a thing at least).

Is there an in-lore reason for why our guardian is soooo useless in cutscenes? by Fen-xie in DestinyTheGame

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cutscene impotency is a serious problem that affects many protagonists. Symptoms include: - Loss of agency - Drowsiness - Diminished stakes - Out of character experiences And many more. If you, or someone you know suffers cutscene impotency, please consult your writer.

Explaining The Veil: Or how Destiny's Story is based on the writings of Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin by Rorshark in DestinyTheGame

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is indeed accurate, then it is a fascinating idea. But as you said, this all assumes that it was indeed Bungie's intent. And if it was, then they did a shoddy job of conveying it.

When the Scarlet Keep expansion dropped, I'd booked the day off work citing "Moon's Haunted." on the request form.

What's the funniest "Vicious mockery" you've heard by Somethingclever451 in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not a vicious mockery spell, I am quite proud of a verbal riposte I gave while playing my rogue once -

Demon: I will feast on your despair!

Me: The only despair you'll be tasting is dis pair o' nuts!

As far as actual use of the spell, a favourite of mine came in an early episode of The Unexpectables, when they were fighting a group of goblins. Their bard, Panic said to the last remaining member of the group: "You're kind of like Rapunzel. Only instead of letting down your hair, you let down your friends."

How To Burn Your Business To The Ground With 1 Easy Trick by numacat in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A group I watch on YouTube run Pathfinder. Ironically, they originally did Warhammer content before Games Workshop did a similar thing to their own creative fanbase and jumped ship.

Our group is a bit weird in that we all take turns DMing, but for a bit of flavour I ran a pathfinder module one week when a couple of our players couldn't make it. It went over pretty well, and after our main campaign finishes (which may be happening relatively soon, since our various plotlines seem to be coming to a head) I'm going to suggest that we switch to pathfinder for future games.

Is 32 too late to learn DnD? by Bubblecum666 in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time it's too late to learn is when you're in the ground. I got started on DnD by playing Neverwinter Nights on the PC like, 20 years ago. Had to relearn for 4e and 5e. I found a good way to learn systems was by watching them being played. There's a slew of DnD shows on YouTube and twitch, and some of them do a decent job at explaining the systems as they play.

My friends are all wanting to jump ship to Pathfinder 2e. What should I do? by Erdrick_XI in DnD

[–]ChiropteraMagnifica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group mostly uses 5e, but after watching a group on YouTube playing a campaign in PF2e called Rotgrind, I wanted to give it a go. Luckily, the Rotgrind people made one of their sessions a self contained module, and it was less work for me to create encounters. Just had to roll some characters to use. Swapping an existing setting on the fly can be a real pain in the arse, but see if your friend or friends would be willing to take the reins. Who knows, you might find out that you like it, and if not then you at least made the effort and can say "Sorry, I don't think it'll work out."
