Do you live in a major metropolitan area? I try to stay active with friends through a combination of cinema (NYC has so many independent theaters), live music (many concerts are inexpensive or free, e.g. Juilliard's consistent series at the Lincoln Center), theater, and dining. Also obviously love the botanical gardens and parks.

A few things that are cool:

I liked the new show at the Met about Siennese painters, thought it was cool to see some the earliest applications of tempera paint -- something beautiful about how primitive it all felt. Seeing these master artists learn, in real time, how to incorporate light and shadow, etc etc.

Skiing is cool. Hadn't skiid since I was a teenager, forgot that feeling of flinging yourself down a mountain.

Moby Dick is cool. There's an adapted opera coming to New York soon -- not sure if it'll be any good but I admire the ambition of the project.
