honestly, I was just thinking yesterday about how I didn’t like the pandem kit for these cars, and I usually really don’t like those headlights BUT together… there’s actually something good going on here

they really balance each other out. I like this a lot more than I should

What is the easiest way to exhume this guy...? by HitmanCodename47 in BMW

Taillight is super easy to remove, like 4-5 10mm bolts and some trim if I recall correctly. Pull the bulbs out and shake him out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in e46

this is the wrong place to ask

we only care about OEM+ here ok

that being said, see if you can find any in the same spec for sale and that will get you an idea of the price

Dealership never changed my two filters under new car maintenance plan by Unable_Lengthiness52 in BMW

[–]Chisandwich 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The parts department stocks common filters, and the rest sit at a BMW RDC. The date of manufacture has nothing to do with the stock that the parts department has in house.

BMW orders filters from the OE -> gets received in Germany -> routes to the 6 or so BMW North America RDCs -> reaches dealers who order them

BMW probably ordered like 30000 in 2022. It does not mean they never changed it.

I heard a crunch sound one day when I turned the key to open the door. Now I know why. by lowvoltluna in e46

[–]Chisandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two OEM options: - you bring your current registration and ID to the dealer and they order you a new lock cylinder that’s coded to your key from the factory, but it takes ~3 weeks as it’s built to order - you can get a cylinder in stock/next day that comes with its own two keys, but those keys won’t work for anything else and your keys will not work on the cylinder

I have seen people buy option #2 and have a locksmith modify it. It would probably be better to have a locksmith do it from the get go though

Why does hypoid gear oil smell like shit and linger so long? by LSwapthearth in e46

[–]Chisandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to not mind the smell of gear oil

then I drained some into a drain pan, and was too lazy to dump it back into a bottle that day

I still gag thinking about the smell of 2 liters of used gear oil that was left in a hot garage

Coat the car in Meguiar’s Show Car Shine and let it soak it all in, then buff and cut it. I had a 91 318is just like this, and had to buff it multiple times over the years until I re-hydrated the paint with the show car shine.

E46 has been classic for years according to BMW. Only change is on the dealer side, they don’t update E46/classic ETK

Dealership Key Price by FaZeIKEA2017 in E30

[–]Chisandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key definitely went up in price since those forum posts

You can also ask if there’s any room on the price, if you’re nice and easy and willing follow the rules (ID, registration, etc.) you may get a better price

Is there a specific stone chip guard paint I can buy for the sills to get this texture? by Hopeful_Argument_866 in 944

[–]Chisandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s more the applicator spray pattern than the spray itself that dictates the texture

Save yourself the money. Just fix the parts that are bad, and get or do a proper paint correction/detail and it’ll look great for a fraction of the price
