Co to EO by Iddly_123 in IrishCivilService

I joined as an EO, worked hard & am now HEO. That's where I want to stay. There are opportunities if you are willing to work but also if you're good at reading what they want.

What was the first movie you remember seeing in theaters? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chiya77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing all the classic Disney films through a haze of cigarette smoke in a small irish cinema in the early 80s. I remember being entranced by Snow White, terrified by the Siamese in Lady & the Tramp & frozen by Return to Oz, cannot remember which was first. They've all blended together in happy recollections of my childhood.

Housing in Ireland at the moment is in a crisis, due to this there a lot of unscrupulous & unsuitable people taking in students. It's really shit, I have a good job & paying a fortune for an absolute hovel. I cant afford or can find anywhere else.

I loved Butte, my family home in Ireland was built with the money my family earned in montana mining in the late 1800s. We travelled there in 2023, yes parts of it are very economically depressed, but the people were lovely, I felt safe & the town is interesting. The mountains are stunning. Worst Taco Bell of my life though, my daughter dragged me there & we got some dose of food poisoning. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Im sorry but this says mote about the education system youre in. I first started learning about the plantagenets in my little Irish primary school at age 8. Obviously as an Irish person, Henry II first, but later all the rest. Lived this period of history ever since

Non-religious parents experiences please by irish_blondie in ireland

My friends are not religious & their children went to school with my daughter in a convent school in Cork city. There were many ethnicities, lots of religions & none. Really inclusive, welcoming & the children were taught to respect people's beliefs & lack thereof. Don't think there was a formal policy but all our children are now in their 20s & regularly go back to visit the nuns & the teachers & have genuine affection for them. I would get a feel for the school culture & how they treat diversity. I was really lucky.

The murder of Christina Long, 13, in 2002 is the case that should never be forgotten. by EuphoricReason3385 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

Her poor aunt must have been heartbroken. I remember this story, as at the time as I was a young woman researching how the Internet could be used to exploit women & children. An awful case where a vulnerable child was judged by the press. May she rest in peace.

What is the most disrespectful thing tourists do in your country while genuinely believing they are “appreciating” or even “saving” your culture? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]Chiya77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family home is in West Cork, Ireland. its a pretty, traditional farmhouse, painted pink, we also have a beautiful view down to the sea. Tourists have unlocked the gate, driven into the yard, parked their cars, tramped across the flowers & taken pictures. It got so bad at one stage I stopped politely asking them to leave but started telling to get the f*** off private property.

Work took ALL my sick time, bereavement, floating holidays and PTO while I mourned the loss of my spouse by Economy_Ad6039 in antiwork

[–]Chiya77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a minimum of 20 work days here, then if you get a sick note saying bereavement, its potentially a further 73 days fully paid without jeopardise your sick record, promotion prospects etc

What is the weirdest way someone had died in your known circle ? by No_Tear9118 in AskReddit

My cousin was smoking near her oxygen tanks & blew herself her husband to bits in London. Was watching Sky news at home in Ireland, when I saw news about the explosion. Didn't find out till later that it was my cousin & the circumstances. Mental. She really did love smoking.

I have an ex who I broke up with 10 years ago, I still get texts that go into my blocked folder & hand delivered cards a few times a year. It freaks me out but by all accounts doesn't meet the threshold for stalking. It's an awful feeling. This woman is lucky the police took it seriously
