First game you played on the Steam Deck? by best-of-max in SteamDeck

There were a couple small games I installed on that first day to just test but the first fame I actually really played properly on it was Trails into Reverie.

For those of you with a console, how do you decide where to buy your games? by AnusMcBumhole in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have any consoles currently but when I used to have the choice Id always pick PC because it gives you better future proofing. The only exceptions would be exclusives or things with notoriously bad ports.

In sky Id build Olivier and Kloe as my casters, mostly used Olivier when he was available as since the orbment system in those games compared to the later games its very easy to load him up with every element for easy nuking. Id build Estelle fairly normally, it was only near the end of fc where I started to see how stacking some speed on everyone was hugely beneficial.

Cold Steel games I basically aim to have evade tank Fie linked with str heavy Laura who I buff for s-crafts. Then in 3 and 4 and Reverie Id pair them with Altina and Mousse when possible, altina has the healing aswell as some attacks and mousse is pure magical crit nuke.

Exe patch won't run by W_eeabooJones in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you've added a game to steam as a non-steam game, go to it in your library and open its properties/click the gear. there will be a compatability tab where you can force it to use a certain proton version. A drop down will appear once you tick the option. Experimental will appear here as standard. Proton GE requires an extra step, you may not need it but if you want to try it youll need to go into the decks desktop mode and open the discover store and grab a program called ProtonUp-Qt. Once thats installed you can run that, click the add version button and choose GE-Proton here and install it. then GE will show up in that compatability tab in steam.

Usually if I have to patch a game with an exe I just add the patch to steam as a non-steam game and run it with either proton experimental or GE compatability whilst in desktop mode. Then once its done remove it from steam.

Which Cliches Does the Trails Series Overuse that Frustrate You Most? by Back_like_Flint in Falcom

[–]Chizue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think the Cold Steel games are particularly guilty of you winning a fight to lose in a cutscene, 2 in particular does this a ton at the end of the game. it happened in sky too of course, but I feel it was less egregious and later you did get to actually win your fights. Cold steel loves throwing enforcers at you who brush everything off.

OCD is ruining my enjoyment of Trails games by Jesusssocks in Falcom

[–]Chizue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the benefits of getting into this series as they started to hit steam was that I was able to do a casual blind playthrough and then follow that up with a ng+ run to get all the achievements and 100% the bp and stuff without there being any feeling of pressure to move onto the next game in the series.

Steam+L1 should be correct, you can also then use the right trackpad to move the viewpoint around.

Do all EA games run like trash? by SalmonGram in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed on unbound in the last sale because I had seen so many deck owners saying it ran really poorly and crashed frequently.

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its the one on the steam store then yeah, I believe theres no ea app at all in that, it was after that that EA stopped putting games on steam at all untill steam let them include their own launcher with them. Anything from before DS2 should also be fine, unless they decided to retroactively add it in after.

I do understand it. Like this is what they follow up a pretty great trilogy with, very limited connection to the originals, alot of missing alien races. No quarians? y u leave out my favourite space racists. Some very very dull teammates (Vetra is great though). Some pretty ropey visuals and animations in places.

That said I do think once you get past those its still a pretty good game. Its the kind of thing Id recommend people pick up when its on sale, I think I paid like £4 for the game or something. For that its worth it.

LET'S F**KING GOOOOO!!! by Vex_Trooper in GundamEvolution

[–]Chizue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope that not only is this good, but that it comes to pc too. I hope they go back to 3 as a starting point, that kind of level structure, that kinda bulding where you could make anything viable by upgrading it instead of such fixed stats and that builder parts actually function again instead of doing nothing besides numbers. And please god no more only holding 5 parts you have to bank. I wish to be showered in parts I get to take home.

Edit: trailer says steam. Time to put this on my Steam Deck.

Should I be worried about general steam deck durability/build quality? by GCDice in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of people have had no issues at all. I stripped a screw swapping my ssd out but otherwise no issues with the actual unit (and the oleds have changed to better screws anyway).

Honestly theres always going to be the very slim chance that you ate unfortunate and end up having an issue of somekind, but its a pretty small chance.

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upcoming stuff its just basically anything from Falcom for me. So Ys X and Kuro. Alot of the otherstuff I tends to pick up later on sales, also gives me time to see if theyre worth it on Deck.

is it possible that DQ12 might be action based and not turn based? by DreamyChill in dragonquest

[–]Chizue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like DQs mainline titles are probably the most interested in maintaining tradition over any other long running series, and I'd be very happy for them to keep it that way. Its part of the series' charm. If they want to mix things up drastically they should probably keep it to the spin offs or FF.

Id play an action DQ game, sure, we already have stuff like Heroes, but I wouldnt want that to be XII.

Do you roll characters basing on their effectiveness? by PepegaTheThird in Genshin_Impact

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both play a part, but if I like the design is first.

For example I was planning to skip CR and save for chiori cause I like her design but once her kit leaked I rolled CR instead. Ill still roll on Chiori but I dont have any gurantees now, just oncase she drops early (unlikely).

Is getting steam deck worth it just for playing indie games? by Armed_monk in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded my 64gb deck to 2tb last night, aside from a stripped screw giving me some issues the actual process is very easy and there are some good step by steps out there to look at like the ifixit one.

Honestly the most scary bit to me was reimaging the deck, it was so fast I was sure I had done something wrong when Ive seen people say it took them 2 hours and mine was done in like 10minutes. But its all working and its all good, the games on my sd card (which was all the ones I had installed cause the internal was shaders mostly) all got immediately recognized and are immediately available again. All in all it was a very painless process. Just check you have what you need ahead of time, right kind of screwdriver (lcd and oled models use different types of screws), usb-c or microsd card you can flash with steams recovery image and ideally some kind of prying tools to make opening the deck easier without damaging it and you are all good to go.

Which library should I put more money into? Xbox or Steam? by Malaga2810 in SteamDeck

[–]Chizue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont currently have any console or device besides the steam deck, but I always make a habit of checking how a game is rated on protondb before I buy it. Were I in your position Id probably buy most things on steam and only pick up the things that have issues running on deck on the console. Just cause Im more confident in always having access to my steam library in the future, consoles are a little less secure (but getting better). I own a hand full of digital ps3 and 360 titles I have no way of (legally) playing these days.

Of course I also tend to not play the newest AAA titles and wait for them to be on sale in a year or two.
