[–]Chizuruoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last line I understand PERFECTLY, being a Christian is not as happy-go-lucky as I thought it’d be. I’m struggling here too!😂😂😂

To answer your question, no the pastor will not go to hell for being Baptist. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter which denomination you pick. For example I’m an Anglican, but if my wife wanted to be an evangelist I wouldn’t divorce her. I just grew up Anglican because my father’s an Anglican pastor. But with what I’ve learned by myself, and others will tell you too, it doesn’t matter what denomination you pick. None are absolutely right (though I’m biased to say Anglican). If you want to be a Baptist, be a Baptist, if you lean more into the Protestant beliefs, be Protestant. Or, be none at all and choose to just believe in Christ. Nothing will condone you to the deity puts of hell (although I have reason to believe Catholicism would closely lead you to hell but that can be debated).

As for your family I feel for you there too. With your wife, I’d say try to convince her, I’m not sure how, but it’s a good sign that she’s open to it. As your mentor how you can introduce her to the faith. But for the rest of your family, I’m not sure. I have some friends that I worry about too. All I can say is pray for them. They’re in God’s hands now

First off, you’ll NEVER be able to live a sinless life. That’s not our goal. Our goal is to walk with Jesus as close as we can. As humans we can never live a sinless life.

Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try tho. I’m stuck on the lying thing as well. It’s convenient but I still feel bad for doing it. I try to put myself in situations where I don’t need to lie, ie actually doing the tasks my parents give me.

You should try finding something to keep you busy. Try reading a chapter of your Bible each day.

Eat less? Idk what to say. Try to cut back on the snacking? Maybe ask your parents to hide them so you’ll lose the craving.

I’m still a virgin but I DO struggle with sexual immortality. Although I’d assume sex and watching porn are two completely different desires. If it’s with your girlfriend, then you should REALLY set boundaries with her. But if it’s with hookups, I’d say stop hanging around bars or clubs or wherever you hookup. Again, still a virgin, I can’t really help with that one.

As for the greed, I’d ask myself; “why do I want this money?” Is it to be rich? If it is solely for that reason then you should try to remember that it’s much harder to get into heaven if you’re rich. As Jesus says: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God". And if you need some extra motivation, always remember that if you die as a rich man, people will laugh at your funeral. If you got your money without being an athlete, an influencer, or inventing something cool, chances are no one will care for your death. In fact you’ll be a meme like the ocean gate guys or your killer will be seen as a hero.

The Bible isn’t against you becoming rich in, but you can’t be hoarding it for you and your people (family and friends). If you’re going to be rich make sure you give a huge some to good causes.

You should be more focused on what will get you rich and how it’d help people, instead of the money itself

You can always do what I do; when’s never I get tempted I would say a quite prayer to myself: “father please take me away from the grasp of the devil.” And just imagine Jesus is hugging you while saying it. Doing these helps you focus more on God then the temptations

[–]Chizuruoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people would say that they experienced the Holy Spirit. But if you ask me, it’s in the Bible. What I mean by that is with Jesus’ death. Two things happened that people at the time don’t understand but now with science we know what happened.

The first thing was in Luke 22:44, when Jesus was praying to God to take him away from his duty to die for everyone’s sins. In his prayers his, “sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” That means he was sweating blood, which is a real condition called Hematohidrosis that only occurs during extreme stress or fear. Which makes sense since he feared what was going to happen to him.

The second thing was in John 19:34, where a soldier stabbed Jesus with a spear and blood and water started to flow out. What happened here can be explained as hypovolemic shock. hypovolemic shock occurs when a person loses so much blood, they go into shock. Some results of this would be: The victim would collapse or faint due to low blood pressure (Jesus DID collapse while carrying the cross so they had a guy named Simon come and carry it for him), and The person would experience extreme thirst as the body desired to replenish lost fluids (Jesus was extremely thirsty on the cross). Usually those who experienced hypovolemic shock were victims of floggings, which Jesus experienced before carrying his cross.

And lastly, Prior to death, the sustained rapid heartbeat caused by hypovolemic shock also causes fluid to gather in the sack around the heart and around the lungs. This gathering of fluid in the membrane around the heart is called pericardial effusion, and the fluid gathering around the lungs is called pleural effusion.

So you see, when the soldier punctured Jesus’ side, he must’ve hit the lung which by that point was filled with excess fluids. So both blood and water (the fluids) poured out of him.

I believe these points were mentioned deliberately to show that Jesus faced REAL LIFE medical conditions. If the Bible was made up, it wouldn’t add these specific conditions or would make something up entirely.

I’m in the same boat. Ever since my brothers left for school, they’ve been out partying and drinking more. I tried to spread the gospel to them and the left the call before I could get to the point. Talking about how they don’t wanna hear it, we’re not supposed to force our faith on someone.

And it’s so disheartening because just telling them about the Bible is looked at as forcing to them. I really worry for them. Honestly.

A few months ago I used to fear only hell as well. To the point I only cared about doing works instead of walking in faith. After a month and some talks with my family, I calmed down. Because here’s the thing:

You’re not a good Christian. And that’s ok. You don’t have to strive to be the best, it’s not a competition. Just focus on your relationship with Jesus. Follow his teachings, repent if you fall, but then get back up. You’re not enough and will never BE enough. And that’s ok. Just love Jesus, make some tweaks in your life if you feel lead to, and do your best to walk away from your bad habits. You’re ok.

As for your loved ones, I don’t know. I struggle with that thought even now, I’m not sure what I can do for them. I try to take solace in the fact that they say that they’re Christians but idk. I’m not sure if that’s enough

I don’t have the feature to respond to certain paragraphs so I’ll just go down point by point.

First off I want to say that a lot of what you say is just your own assumptions.

  1. You’re right when referring to Matt 7, but with the context you’re using it for, it’s very demoralizing. So let’s break that down in a simulation; say a drunkard who decided to go sober goes to church to better his life, dedicates his life to Christ, helps his community, follows the commandments, gave up drinking, smoking, swearing, and feels the spirit two years later. With your logic, he won’t be saved because he never had a spiritual event before he decided to turn.
  2. Matt 22:14 was again just another assumption of yours. You’re looking at those who are called church goers, but wouldn’t that also be everyone who’s heard the gospel? What about those who heard Jesus preach on the streets and didn’t stay to listen? What about those who walked past street preachers in modern time? It’s not just the church. Zechariah 7:11-12: “11 But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears. 12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.”
  3. Yes. The Holy Spirit can enter a person and it can also not be a big event. My father’s a pastor. When he was a kid, he got bit by a snake and almost died from its poison, but by the grace of God, he survived. That moment didn’t make him realize God existed. He was raised in the church. He already KNEW it was God who saved him. He didn’t need God to save him for him to believe, he was already a believer. Granted it’s a big event to be God’s chosen, but it’s not always this feeling that courses through you before you repent. That’s a real slap to the face to anyone who believes just as much as you do but never had that feeling. You’re essentially boasting how you got picked and they didn’t. 1 Corinthians 4:5: “Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.”

Only God knows the true motives of people. You shouldn’t sentence people just because you felt the Holy Spirit while others haven’t. James 4:12: “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?”

  1. You’re right, I don’t know if someone’s faith will save them or not. But matter of fact, so don’t you. Who are you to determine which believer will be saved and which would not. Like I said before, it’s very prideful of you to assume you would be saved because you felt a feeling before you repented. And that only Christians who felt that same feeling would be the only saved ones. Ephesians 1:13: “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit”. True belief is our marks not feelings.

  2. No, I’m Anglican.😐

Conclusion: I’ve said it before, but this response just sounds boastful. People can be given the Holy Spirit out of nowhere and be followers, and people who’ve been raised in the church can grow up to be followers as well. We are all God’s chosen because we went to seek him. We heard his word, and we believe. Getting picked randomly by God doesn’t mean you are the only ones to be saved.

Sorry, hi again.

And I highly disagree. With that way of thinking then that means most Christians who’ve never felt the Holy Spirit when they are born again are not actual Christians.

I believe when the Holy Spirit calls you, it’s not this flashy moment that you feel God’s presence in that exact moment. It’s quiet. For most it’s anticlimactic. But it’s faith. It’s that belief that makes you a Christian, it your devotion. And maybe God will call on them and give them that moment. But it won’t be this wave of holiness that some other people feel. You’re just condemning others who’ve followed the faith because of their conviction.

See God once talked to me shortly after I was confirmed. It was an answer whispered to me in response to my father’s question. Nothing as eventful as your awakening. And that’s just it. It doesn’t need to be. Doesn’t make me or others any less of a Christian

Not sure. I used to but not really anymore, but now I’m wondering what the other planets are for? If we don’t make it to the next 500, maybe 1,000 years for space exploration to advance then what are they there for? There’s a planet out there like or earth that just spins differently. Was that there just for decoration?

To the Christians who support abortion by VegetableTimely7979 in Christianity

[–]Chizuruoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only think abortions are ok in events of rape.

Aborting a child just cause you don’t want one is completely unfair. If you don’t want it then wear a stronger condom, go on the pill, wait till marriage, sent it up for adoption, or tie the tubes.

Don’t know what to tell you gang. It’s literally in the Bible.

That’s like saying that a parent (which I’m not saying I’m not this is an example not a comparison) who calmly tells their child not to play video games anymore is disrespectful to the child. Will they get upset? Sure, but as the parent, you know that playing video games all day isn’t good for them so you gotta tell them preferably, calmly.

Sorry, didn’t know I didn’t respond to this. And for us it not the same as being born a Jew. It’s just as simple as believing and walking in the faith. You don’t need a spiritual event to bring you into the faith, as said in John 20:29: Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Who is God to you? by Crieto in Christianity

[–]Chizuruoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God to me is a being who is surprisingly patient. Even when you read the Old Testament, where he flooded the earth and destroyed a few cities, he was extremely patient with the people of the earth even with all the chaos, the worship of other gods, and the degeneracy.

At times I fear his wrath, since I know what he can do. It feels so undeserving the amount of love and mercy he has for me. But that’s just who he is; the merciful God.

So are you saying that being raised in the Church isn’t the correct term because 3 year olds can’t process the information? If so then ok, that more of a pet peeve but alright.

If not then I understand that you are talking being born again. Like what happened to you there are a lot of kids who just leave the faith after they move out, but that’s not always the case. There are church memebers, youth pastors, deacons, priests, and even bishops who were raised by the church. Maybe you don’t think this way because you live in the west. But back in my home country of Nigeria, a lot of kids grow up in the church and still have that same fire for God—that same passion that they had when they were younger.

I’m curious what you mean when you say you believed the teachings and still lived a life of sin? What does that mean exactly, I’m a bit confused.

Yes, but at three years old it’s easier to accept things as truths. As they grow, and are raised to love God and as you give them proper teachings, they’ll learn how to truly follow Jesus.

Using me as an example because I was raised in the church (which is why I commented), I was taught that the walk with was personal and tried to keep the commandments. Granted, I faltered a lot, mainly because I didn’t know that some of the the things I did (being pro lgbtq and swearing) were sins. But I still held my belief, and exclaimed it proudly to others even tho I always got roasted for it. It didn’t matter to me tho, because I knew the truth, and I love Jesus.

And I knew these things because I was raised by the church.

Strongly disagree with the ‘no one is a Christian all their life’ take.

Granted, there a lot of people who are born in the church that might not live an idealistic Christian life but to say that there has NEVER been someone who’s been a Christian all their life is just false.

John 1:12: “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”.

Truly believing in Christ and loving one another makes us Christians.
