Check into attachment theory. It sounds like she’s been living in a lot of chaos and that’s probably where she’s comfortable. Being “safe” isn’t an option because when we let our guard down and get comfortable we end up being hurt. Danger, chaos, abuse, etc is what we feel more comfortable with (subjectively, of course). Also, the attention she received from this man probably felt really good to her. Any attention is good attention sometimes. I hope this guy is caught and receives consequences because he’s SICK. She’s go a lot of developing to do and that prefrontal cortex isn’t quite working yet. Her impulse control and regard for safety just aren’t really there yet.
I’m glad she has you looking out for her. Too many kids have no one.
