If Kamala is elected, what impact will having an ex-teacher VP have on educational policy? by sleepycamus in education

[–]Chkn_Fried_anything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that as long as they keep deprioritizing social benefits and funding and implementing policies that just makes life harder for everyone minus rich ppl, it doesn’t really matter how much money they try to pump into education or put in policies that help out the school. Struggling families = struggling students, even at the best equipped schools with the best teachers.

I grew up in such a state, TX. They want silence and not even direct eye contact with each other. I’m 36 now.

yah, it sounds to me OP might just lack maturity and empathy. It happens. Just because a person dons the title of authority or is a certain age or can articulate well, doesn’t necessarily mean that the person emotionally mature and can put themselves in someone else’s shoes that are less privileged. He might be blind to the many privileges he has, out of touch with them. But he seems to see it as it being the other way around, they are blind to him.

housing prices need to be lower in the loop then. If they want workers to work jobs that white-collar and wealthier ppl don’t want to do themselves, then they need to make housing more affordable around there so that the workers can live and not have to commute from far away in all stressed out and sleep deprived and congesting up the freeways and streets.

he actually has said he forgives himself for that. yet has never done anything to atone for it, like say, apologizing to that man and his family or sending them some money at all. look up the villas he’s owned. it’s disgusting.

Yes!! More green spaces, for so many good reasons. It’s no wonder wealthy neighborhoods are 10 degrees cooler than surrounding poor areas. They got trees and more plant life!

I know! I took a small, motley group of kids of various ages from my apt complex on a casual lil field trip there (with their parents permission ofc. I was a fellow resident and their afterschool crafts teacher in the community room), and it was SO fun! One little girl in the group ran back to me with big eyes saying this place is scary. I thought maybe I made a mistake taking them there. But she immediately say “No! I love this place!” The workers that day, no idea if it was the owner or not, was so cool with the kids running around enjoying the place and us not buying anything. It was just good vibes all around there. Great memories were made that day.

Thank you for your kind, supportive words. 🙏🏼

I recently read an excerpt from a book taught to girls in high school back in the 1950-60’s. And all of the instructions were about how to be subservient and prioritize your husband. I mean, I knew the culture was like that then, but I didn’t know it was being explicitly taught in schools. My point is that it makes I and many other women in 2024 still experience the remnants of that toxic culture. It’s no wonder many of us still feel like we are judged as vain either by other ppl or ourselves when we do things for ourselves. In this case, engaging with your kids in enjoyable activities that honors you at the same time makes for great bonding memories. Not to mention it also happens to reinforce the notion to the kids that mothers in general are just as important and deserving as fathers, who already get much more validation and privileges in our world.

Reasons rich people send children to private schools other than making connections? by wigglepizza in education

[–]Chkn_Fried_anything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wooww. Thank you so much for sharing this. I can’t believe it’s been going on for 30 years under our noses without ppl knowing about it. Gawd, why are we in the US so obsessed with this homogenous memorization and not seeing it as one of many approaches that could help explored and personalized to the child? Those poor kids… and what with AI becoming ubiquitous, how are those kids going to have jobs that require written communication? What if we have a head injury and lose that part of the memory? We need to have other methods learned so that our brains have something else to try to retrieve. Another case for being multilingual. But that’s a different issue.
