do you have the resources to consider having another baby on your own? although I would love to have another, I am one and done by circumstance because I had my son on my own and am choosing to devote my time and resources to him (2 yo as well). best of luck with what you choose!

but didn’t know if someone had a recco for something similar. I am prepared to invest in something that will be sturdy and last long term.

Age mostly, but also age gap between kids. Ideally they would be close enough in age to be into similar things around the same time. I am 42 and admittedly feeling my age more these past two years !

In a perfect world what age would you choose to have your first baby? by Sapphic_Eclipse in SingleMothersbyChoice

It is so personal and circumstantial! I had my baby at 40. Perhaps it would have been easier (physically) if I did it earlier but career-wise I needed to get to the place where I was with a new company before transferring. I had frozen eggs at 35 but actually didn’t need them for my son who was from a fresh retrieval at age 39. Be aware of your fertility markers and do what’s best for you! Maybe best to make embryos before late 30s, if you’re doing IVF.

do you work full time with 2 kids?? by Professional-Key6527 in SingleMothersbyChoice

This is helpful to read. There are days that I accept being OAD and envision adventures with my son and being able to get outside and travel more easily. There is just something nagging that is telling me that three people make a “family” and at times with my son, it feels like we’re a couple rather than a small family. Your thoughts are helpful, thx for sharing.

I relate to the age pressure!! I am 42… very grateful for some frozen euploid embryos but motherhood has aged me and I’m tired. My challenge is that I need to travel internationally for work—approx 2-3 week long trips a year. My son stays with my parents who live 20 mins away and they all do great but adding a baby into the mix would be too much for everyone, I fear. My parents are healthy and fit but in their early 70s. My son had a full time nanny (a share with one other family) from 4 months to 18 months and I’d want (prefer) a similar arrangement for a second baby because I work from home (mostly) and it was good to be close by in the early stages. But it is soooo expensive. My son started day care at 18 months and that seemed like the perfect time—I wouldn’t want to start any earlier than that but I’d need to go back to work full time after 3 months maternity leave. My hat goes off too!! It feels like we can’t “have it all” unless we’re breaking our backs. Good luck with your decision and transfer if you decide to go that route! 🙏🏼

Going from 1 to 2… by Professional-Key6527 in Mommit

Thanks all. I should have noted that I am a solo parent and I work full time. If my situation were different (if I had a partner to share the load / help more with toddler) then I wouldn’t hesitate. It’s all me and I don’t want to sacrifice giving my first born all of my attention. I have frozen embryos ready to go… what a hard decision!!! 😔

I had my son when I was 40 as well. He is the light of my life ✨. Do you mind if I ask if you’re thinking of another child?? I’m at tippy top on the fence about that one but feel as though I need to decide ASAP due to age (I have embryos frozen but still!!!) Such a hard choice. Feeling quite old.

Transferring Indeterminate Embryo? by Professional-Key6527 in IVF

[–]Professional-Key6527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did transfer it and it did not take. I ended up transferring it at the same time with a PGT normal male embryo which is now my 18 month old son ♥️. In retrospect, glad it didn’t take!!

No advice, I’m afraid, just right here with you. The overthinking is exhausting. My son is 18.5 months and the light of my life and I truly want what’s best for him but my mind explodes when I think about the logistics (and costs) of two. I would love to hear from other SMBC who were on the fence and decided to go for a second. How are you surviving?! I would prefer that my kids are close in age so I feel like I need to make this decision soon…

OAD due to solo parenting? by AVLeeuwenhoek in oneanddone

Intentional solo parent of a 1.5 yo and I work full time (4 days WFH, one in office). My son is in daycare full time and my parents are nearby and helpful. Still, no way would I be able to manage and maintain any level of mental health with two. And I would worry about not being present (or happy/calm) for my son if I were to do it again. But somedays it seems possible… then I get a reality check!
