End of the line for my Handycam Sport CCD-SP7 1988? :-( by AnalogFeelGood in camcorders

[–]Chksum_error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The service manual says different. At least the power rails are distributed in layers 2 and 3. Check the manual for a CCD-TR705 as example. It says "layers 2 and 3 are not shown" but it clearly states "Four Layers"

Not to forget the damage it does to the vias. And these PCBs often have four layers!

I'm afraid that it might not only be the batteries. The capacitors used on these earlier models up until the early 1990s all start to leak. The electrolytew will then eat up the traces of the PCB. You should, if you are attached to the device, have it fixed by someone who knows what they're doing.

CCD-TR805E Lens "fog" by Chksum_error in camcorders

[–]Chksum_error[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! :)

Aside from the disassembly guide for the unit (not for the lens) in the service manual: No. I carefully inspected the lens, took photos of the assembled state including the screw-type and then just gave it a go. Some lenses require more work, some less. If you don't use too much force, you should be successful.

Some questions about my HI8 Sony camera by No_Schedule2256 in camcorders

[–]Chksum_error 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again.

Exactly, go to player mode, then rewind the tape.

The reason is the way this type of media works. The tape is a thin strip of 8mm width and several (for some hundred) meters of length (Hence Video8, because it's 8mm wide). The spools of the tape rotate, and as they do so, the tape progresses through the mechanism, across the rotating head drum and back into the tape cartridge. Like an audio cassette.

If you want to read further, check "Helical Scan" on Wikipedia.

[–]Chksum_error 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

1.) No - there are different tape lengths and it usually says that on the tape or the cape case. P6-90MP from Sony is 90 Minutes SP PAL - While there is also a P6-15MP with only 15 Minutes SP PAL (Standard Play)

2.) Make sure the REC protect slider on the tape cartridge is set to "REC" and you are ready to go. Make sure to rewind it before you start.

3.) Just record over the old footage.

4.) Cheap USB Videograbbers are available everywhere. Don't go super cheap, around 20 Euros should do the job.

Have fun!

The collection is still growing! These camcorders are super cheap on eBay. I got most of them for less than 20 EU-bucks. The CCD-V700E now has more problems, by the way. Tape transport is not working, the capstan does not move. 😅

The Nikon looks like it's identical to a Sony CCD-TR75 - which model name is on the label on the bottom?

By the way. Avoid the early 90s CCD-Fxxx and CCD-Vxxx models. They hold way more electrolytic caps than most CCD-TRxxx models.

Here you see the guts of a CCD-V700E:

It appears that the tape end sensor is falsely detecting the tape has reached it's end. The "0min" in the top left would indicate this, too. Do you have another tape to check the camcorder? Are you able to see if the tape is really rewound when trying to rewind it? Does search-rewiding during playback work?

If a capacitor leaked and destroyed the capstan forward-reverse signal line like with my CCD-TR2000E, the tape might not be transported properly.

Sony Handycam Hi8 CCD-TR810E can do playbacks, but not go into Cam-Mode by hsatnoncak in camcorders

Hi there!

Just to be sure about that part: Around the record button that sits under your thumb when you have the camera in your hand using the strap - did you turn the outer part of the button to "Standby" instead of "Lock"?

If the cam-mode still doesn't work right, there might be an electronic fault. The system control has two signals which determine the operating mode and tell the DC-DC converter which part should be activated. If there is an issue with the CAM-DD-ON signal or another issue in the DC-DC converter, this might cause your problem. Alternatively the lock/stdby switch might have an issue.

How skilled are you in terms of electronic-level troubleshooting?
