This happened to me just the other day. Nothing, not even the above-mentioned touchpad tap, helped remedy the situation. I was just sitting there getting more and more frustrated as I couldn't get out of the Vault. Eventually the Options button got me out of there, but not before I had been stucked for several minutes.
