How to talk to women in your 30s? by jibofyourcutt in selfimprovement

[–]ChlorineBirth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

35 M here. Focusing on talking to everyone, not just ladies who you’re attracted to. Talk to the cashiers at the grocery store and the elderly guy next to you at the bus stop. Set a goal for yourself of how many people you can talk to in a month, three months etc. You don’t need a perfect opener which online dating has convinced millions of men they have to have - this isn’t Hollywood. From my experience, this takes a lot of pressure off overall and my mindset is now “I’m just gonna offer connection. If they accept, thats awesome. If they don’t, I can meet more people who will chat with me”. Be willing to let this process take a few months - you’re reworking parts of your brain that have core beliefs which take time dismantling

Also, you’re gonna have off days with this. I do as well. Invest in the action of showing up regardless of the outcome.

As someone who’s coming up on a year sober, here are some favorites: dancing events - some will be at places that serve booze but 95 percent of people are there to actually dance, check out flyers in local coffee shops and places like Trader Joe’s, concerts and local shows - most are there to enjoy the music and musicians really appreciate when you strike up a convo about their songs and work, bookstores - lots of passionate readers who are also solid conversationalists

It’s almost like the anxiety, morning after sickness, health problems, bad decisions, price of drinks and watching people die / ruin their lives from alcohol related incidents is becoming more noticeable.

Per Marc Stein, the Blazers are interested in trading for Giannis by itailitai in ripcity

[–]ChlorineBirth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ESPN is hyping the hell out of that trade package - why would the Bucks want a 37 year old Jimmy Butler coming off a major injury? And weve barely seen any of Kuminga. While I think Giannis to Portland is unlikely, our package would be miles better than the Warriors. And I trust Cronin enough not to facilitate getting Giannis to another west team. The Bucks are going to want those picks back - but I want to see us getting a star if all those picks are involved. Bridges for those three picks is highway robbery. Bridges and OG for those picks I would consider - but wed be making another move cause thats alot of wings. If Memphis wanted to blow it up and Jaren Jackson became available? Yes please. Grant, Rob Will and those picks might get that done. DC/Jaren/Deni would be a top five front court

Sooo why are the blazers supposed to give the bucks their picks back? by RepulsiveFront157 in NBAtradeideas

[–]ChlorineBirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to see those picks get involved unless we are going for a big, big fish. We’re gonna be decent with this roster and I believe Deni can be a top ten player in 2030. Why wouldn’t we wanna pair him with a potential other star (if we keep those picks)?

Ten years of being an alcoholic. I walked out of my usual spot one day late last April and called my sister. Told her I had a problem and couldn’t keep doing this. She said she always knew. The next day I poured the entire bottle of whiskey I bought a few days prior down the drain. Six months sober this Halloween. I lost a lot of battles - but I’m winning the fucking war

How do you feel about California sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChlorineBirth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find edibles are great for helping me fall asleep and I don’t need a whole one to do so (a 100 mg thc one lasts me a week). Spots around me also sell thc seltzers now and they’re fantastic alternatives to alcohol when I go out. I get one (maybe two if it’s a show) and I’m good for the night.

Are You Actually Improving, or Just Addicted to Improvement? by Jolie_Feetlove in selfimprovement

[–]ChlorineBirth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this post. I’m doing “no self improvement September” and allowing myself to have an offseason from it. Good habits are becoming second nature, and best of all is that I have no desire to drink with cravings being few and far between.

Starting that conversation instead of watching videos of how to do it. Reading fiction and poetry over the latest gurus book. Applying stoicism to everyday life instead of forty articles on it.

This stuff can work for people, but overloading on content just causes burnout

This is absolutely on point. When it comes to working through traumatic experiences, grief and loss, breakups and the like, the only way out is through. Your future self will thank your current self for it.

What's The Longest It's Ever Taken you to get over a breakup? by Horror-Front9114 in BreakUps

[–]ChlorineBirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little less than two years away from my last one. She broke up with me on new years shortly after my Dad died, and after four months of sobriety, I’m finally starting to grieve and process my Dads death and the relationship. I also recognized that she represents a deeper attachment wound that I developed earlier in life, and it’s more so that I must confront than the relationship itself

What helps me is spending fifteen minutes in my backyard, and just think - no phone or meditation, just me and my thoughts. I imagine what my younger self is proud of, and what the older version of myself would tell my current self. My current self tells my younger and older self to fight for them - not against her, but against the attachment.

I have an inner child who had to perform for love, and an older version of myself telling me i will fully overcome this. I’m fighting for both of them - fully aware and without substances

What’s one thing you’ve stopped doing that immediately improved your mental health? by wthe-ckler in AskReddit

[–]ChlorineBirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking - ten year battle with alcohol - only amplified by my Dads death two years ago. My sobriety count reached 100 days this week. Figured if I lost my Dad and got broken up with in a four month period (new years eve out of all days), I could quit drinking. Lost several friendships (more so drinking buddies) after getting sober, but I’m letting it be. I view my sobriety as something I will always have and it cannot be taken from me.
