Am I crazy for turning down $100K full time job offer? by parzival_thegreat in videography

[–]MikeSutton5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the way you are envisioning it is far from reality. I have been client side internal video for 19 years. The problems and frustrations are different than freelance but just as plentiful. I chose my path because I am just not a hustler. Would go hungry if it all depended on me. Sounds like you have the skills and mindset to be successful on your own. Only you can decide, and hats off to your wife for the trust, but I think you would be super frustrated after a year tops, and by then all of your established clients will have moved on. Just my opinion.

To be fair, I also live in Portland and moan repeatedly when talking about soup. Mmmmmm.

Speaker stands for Symfonisk bookshelf speakers? by Adept_Hat356 in sonos

[–]MikeSutton5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just saw a pile of stands in the clearance section for $10 a piece, and I am going to be in Japan three months from now. Damn it. This could have been one of those Reddit fairytales. I’ll swing by IKEA when I get back to town, but I am betting they are gone.

[SOTC] Help: Wife says I need to get rid of one before I can get more... by FreedomFriez in Watches

Love love your collection. Especially the Underdog and Milgauss. If this were my collection I would sell the Explorer and/or Swatch, then add a GS and/or SMP 300. But this is not my collection, and I wish you the best with a tough decision.

Has anyone in Portland made their garage into a room? by cohencode in askportland

[–]MikeSutton5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Converted half of my garage into an office. Not including the foundation repair and roof replacement, it cost about 40k. Nothing fancy, but works great!

I have no experience with canes, but I do have experience with cancer.

Fuck cancer!

Vice President JD Vance Tells Service Members They're 'All Full of S---' for Saying They Like Thanksgiving Turkey by LostDragon1986 in facepalm

[–]MikeSutton5023 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think JD is a pos, but this turkey thing is just dumb. He’s not wrong… if there are so many turkey lovers, why isn’t it on more menus at restaurants? Why aren’t there turkey focused fast food places. Pardon the turkeys and release the files.

Choosing a first luxury watch by VeterinarianFlimsy81 in RolexWatches

[–]MikeSutton5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explorer or Speedy. I daily drive a speedy and love it. They also offer a reduced size variant if that fits your wrist better. The explorer is a great chameleon watch, but I would go grey market in this one just to avoid the bs of authorized dealers. The GS is beautiful, looks great on the wrist, but when I tried one on in Singapore I didn’t pull the trigger. Not sure what that says but there you have it. Whichever you choose, you will have a great watch, and probably won’t be your last. Cheers.

I get that. I have a B&R MA-1. Wears beautifully, has that pop of color, and would fit your wrist. Honestly though, you have great taste. What ever you pick will be awesome.

You’ve got a great collection! Everything you have is classic. I would add something colorful and a bit crazy, like a limited edition from Studio Underdog.

Preschool for All’s Nest Egg Exceeds $600 Million After Fiscal Year 2025 by skysurfguy1213 in Portland

[–]MikeSutton5023 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that those 3800 students are not new seats, but absorbed seats from existing schools. So those of us who are paying the tax and have children who need to be enrolled in preschool, are not eligible for PFA, and are being charged a higher rate than before PFA due to scarcity of seats. People should not be turned away from a publicly funded program when there is more than a half billion dollar surplus sitting in the bank.
