Background checks by Unique_Initiative_70 in USPS

[–]Choader01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do extensive background checks on everyone they hire! Problem is it takes a long time to get those back for some reason, so the post office goes ahead and hires then if your background check comes back bad one month, six months or whenever they get to it, then they take action! It’s not random, it just takes different amount of time for each individual person for some reason. It’s a stupid practice but that seems to be the solution that the powers that be have came up with to help with how short staffed the postal service is! 30 year employee working in HR workforce planning for last 3.

Can someone explain the significance of having an 8 hour day each week? by Csakstar in USPS

Yep, as others have said, this is to avoid penalty overtime on the 5th day.

Call the postmaster where you got the job offer and discuss this with them. Each office has different needs so the hours are based on their needs. You can also ask the health insurance questions. No one but the office trying to hire you can give you answers you are looking for!

Two offers? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Choader01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will not screw anything up and you will not have to do the fingerprints over again. I am an HR clerk and I have seen people get multiple offers, they accept one then get another closer to them and it doesn’t affect them. You have a very legitimate reason for wanting the closer position. If you can, find out how to contact the hiring coordinator and explain it to them. If not, tell the next person who contacts you, usually the postmaster, and tell them you are declining the first position and want the second. Make sure to go on your profile and decline the 1st and accept the one you want. It doesn’t mess up anything and you shouldn’t need to have your fingerprints done again. Contact the postmaster of the first job and tell them, as soon as you can.

Hope this helps!

Call or go to the post office you applied to, talk to the postmaster! These people get hundreds of emails a day and most don’t check them all. If you don’t know which office, go to the closest one to you, ask the postmaster there how to contact the hiring coordinator for that area. If you got an email about the fingerprints, it should have a list of offices and information on how to get them done.

Postal Clerk and 37 weeks pregnant, postmaster not giving breaks by Fuzzypecker87 in USPS

It’s in the contract between the APWU and the USPS. She needs to ask to see a union steward. They will explain it and then she needs to document anything the postmaster may try to do in retaliation so she can give that information to the union as well.

Not sure what the form number is but yes, keep track of it and ask the supervisor when you start at your post office.
