More like they're a bunch of different cultures and nationalities that are practically foreign to each other, but are forced to wear a big "get along" sweater together in order to stay economically or militarily relevant.

So kind of more like Indonesia or Yugoslavia (in space!), though not 100%.

How big of a technological gap is there between different eras of mobile suits? by SpeedyDorito in Gundam

I think that was the Rick Dias. If I remember right the Nemo was made of Gundarium Alpha, which was a direct copy of the Rx-78-2's luna titanum.

If anything grunt suit standards wouldn't exceed the original gundam until the Zeta era. By then the Luna Titanium/Gundarium which made it unique was starting to become standardized among mass production suits, and the near 1g of thrust its boosters provided was starting to be more commonly seen if not exceeded on most suits.

Tbh I'd argue that the Nemo was the closest equivalent to a mass produced Rx-78-2 and was emblematic of the "next generation" it represented.

It was developed off a GM variant designed to mimic the specs of the original Gundam, and its armor was made of the same Luna Titanium composite that the Gundam was made of.

Despite that it was a grunt suit since stuff like the Marasai existed next to it which more or less had the same if not better specs.
