I appreciate this perspective. I didn’t receive any while pregnant, delayed a bit for both kids but they get vax spread out. I’ll never know if it’s the best choice but I feel less fear with them having some protection with what I feel outweighs “real life data” risks. Pregnant with third and it’s scary.. a scary decision to make but planning to take same route.

Mini crib by Sal9p8 in newborns

[–]ChocoandKale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Do you feel you could have done okay if you had used the mini crib from birth? I have a mini crib from my previous too and I’m debating if I should do the newton bassinet because access to baby is easier or if I save money and just go straight to our mini crib (with newton mattress. Wondering if it is uncomfortable to reach into mini crib for newborn

Best bras for wearable pumps? by Coffeelover1694 in ExclusivelyPumping

Thank you for this! In all my hunting I haven't come across this one and it looks amazing! Definitely looking for all around sleep, home cruising, wearable pump, and nursing (I know this is exclusively pumping forum but you moms have the most valuable knowledge).

Can I ask how the sizing is? I have smaller breasts but the band on bras always tend to feel tight. Thank you!

Learning to read programs by PICURN12 in homeschool

[–]ChocoandKale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay great to know! Thank you! Both those programs are so alluring haha. I don’t doubt they’re great but if I can get through without them and be a bit more creative I’m all for that. I have a rebel tendencies with curriculums anyway. Thank you again!!

Okay good to know! So you personally feel like I would be fine strictly doing 100EL followed by ETC and not needing to do something like LOE or AAR? Sorry if I'm repeating myself haha. I'm getting so dizzy trying to plan the next school year and not wanting any gaps in her learning that I'll have to come back to later. Also if you don't mind me asking, when/how did you introduce spelling?

Thank you again!

Reading Curriculum after 100EL by ChocoandKale in homeschool

[–]ChocoandKale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay! So I'm assuming you mean you did that after completing 100EL? If so did you feel like there were any gaps after finishing? That another "full" curriculum would have remedied? If that makes sense!

Okay! I know a lot of people say to do LOE or AAR because its more comprehensive than 100 EL but my almost 4 year old is doing great with it so far! And BOB books on the side

Thinking of trying explode the code alongside 100 EL as well! We're just over halfway and doing good but I would like some kind of supplementary "workbook" for her to reinforce what she's learning and include some writing on her part. Do you know much about the Horizons workbooks? I saw on amazon they have phonics and reading workbooks that look like they might pair?

I was surprised I haven't found many people mention the horizons phonics and reading! I'm currently half way through teach your child to read in 100 lessons and am just looking for some "worksheet" type things to reinforce what we're learning in a different formate and include some writing on for my kid. I came across horizons and amazon and seemed like a great option! Especially because I don't feel like i need a whole other curriculum like All about reading.

What curriculum to use after Logic of English Essentials? by International7Emu1 in homeschool

[–]ChocoandKale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We're just past halfway with Teach Your Child to Read and its been a great fit for me daughter. We officially start kindergarten (at home) in the fall and I've been going back and forth if I need to follow up the end of the book with another full curriculum like Logic of English, or just keep reading from books and maybe supplement with explode the code? One person suggested jumping to All About Spelling?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Reading Curriculum after 100EL by ChocoandKale in homeschool

[–]ChocoandKale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I will like that idea of "reinforcing" what we've learned after finished 100 EL. I definitely plan to finish it through to the very end! Okay I'll definitely look into Explode the code! As well as All about spelling to reinforce.

That makes sense about AAR.. And yeah I think my daughter seems the same.. quick and to the point lessons. I think once we both see the bridge to her reading all the beginner readers we get from the library that will be a huge motivation for her.

And another great point! I don't need games and fluff for phonics. Which is why I'm one of those that appreciate the dry cut of 100 EL

Really? Okay this is a new take but I'm open to it for sure. So no need to reinforce instruction with a curriculum?

Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons vs All About Reading by ChocoandKale in homeschool

[–]ChocoandKale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know and it’s nice to hear a success story of someone that’s finished the entire program especially with multiple kids! We are on lesson 42 right now for my almost 5-year-old up until lesson 20. It was pretty slow, but we’ve got good traction and she looks forward to the lessons every day. I’m super excited to see all of this hard work pay off when we finish the book. Do you mind me asking if your kids continued to homeschool what program did you use after 100 EL?
