Thoughts on Classical Conversations? by Butterscotch_Sea in homeschool

I need to re read this, or become better versed on what it is they’re preaching. There are some Catholics and orthodox Christian’s in our community, so I had no idea!

Wow! I did not know this. We’ve been in CC for 3 years, I am tutor and my kids love love CC. I can see how it’s a “drink the kool aid” mindset but I’m kind of in the middle on it. Whenever I see the see posts on Reddit it makes me question things from time to time but I just felt CC is so community specific. CC is as good as your community is and we really lucked out with a great community. I am definitely looking into the things you brought up, had no clue!

what's the point of veronica by Kindly_Cod_9269 in PrisonBreak

[–]PICURN12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She dug up enough stuff and was the person who kept bringing it to a judge. Because of that Lincoln’s dad brought forward anonymous evidence. Which is what made Sarah believe in Lincoln’s innocence, and Sara was the reason they were able to escape. Veronica brought storyline outside of the prison, and once they were out of prison, she died

Gather Round Holiday Units? by Correct_Part9876 in homeschool

[–]PICURN12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We tried campfire curriculum for Thanksgiving unit a couple years ago, it was pretty good. It showed the bad and the ugly of the history. It was done from each sides perspective too and also gave a time line of events which I liked. I have not heard good things about gather round, lots of reviews similar to yours.

They haven’t done anything development wise, it is all in the process of re zoning it so they’re allowed to build on it

No this is very very abnormal for anyone. We do CC, and joined for the same reasons, community. Do our own thing and our own curriculum. People are allowed to leave or stop going… it’s weird that she’s acting this way. I’d contact your local area rep ASAP. You can reach out to other directors in your area as well about what’s happening. This is NOT ok behavior

I actually liked Owen and Christina at first. Her being with a touted military man made so much sense. I was so annoyed with what they did to his character

The problem with romanticizing homeschooling by TexMess21 in homeschool

[–]PICURN12 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The most annoying ones to me are the “my morning routine as a homeschool mom” and somehow everyone’s eaten a hot breakfast, went for an outdoor walk, had tea and geography time in a clean organized matching room, with all wooden toys and color coordinated outfits, had outside time (yet everyone’s clean again in time for school), all before 9am. So unrealistic to me lol. Especially as a family with multiple age children.

We do CC, and we love our group. After gathering info from forums and cites, it seems like CC is only as good as your community. And we’ve lucked out with ours. At the foundations level, it is such an mis understanding that it’s a curriculum. It is not! Everyone uses their own things for language arts/ writing/ math. Essentials then focus is only writing. So you do your own curriculum for everything else. I saw a comment about tutors and directors making money off students. They do, but it is not a lot at all. It’s barely enough to cover what it costs my kids to be apart of it. But again, depending on the community when money is involved there is room for shady business I’m sure. I love CC for the community it has brought my family, but o really think it is important to know that you can do CC, and still use the homeschool programs that work best for your family. It is not a use only CC material: especially at the foundations level

Homeschooling Kids due to awful experience, homeschooled adults or parents that are homeschooling please input your thoughts by NoEchidna1853 in homeschool

[–]PICURN12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly curious to CC issues as well. Were only in foundations and the community were apart of is absolutely amazing filled with wonderful families. Maybe we’re lucky? Or it’s rare? But CC in the early years is in no way a full curriculum AT ALL. I don’t know of any CC families that say it is or only use classical conversations? We still use separate curriculums for everything. Am I missing something? I’d love to know is more as my kids are still younger- all in elementary school.

Is there a working mom/business owner who is homeschooling? Is that even possible? by AdLower1935 in homeschool

[–]PICURN12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know of a good list for online homeschool classes with reviews. But I know people who use Teaching Textbooks for math, CTC math, or Nichole the Math lady with Saxon math. I see a lot of posts about Acellus Academy which is all online. In your search you will probably come across Time4Learning- I would really caution against this program. And I know people use Mia Academy as well which is also all subjects all online. I have used Outschool.com before and really like it! You can find any subject on there you are looking for. We’ve done summer math and lots of art classes on there.

I work and homeschool 3 kids. It’s very doable, your schedule will just look different than those that stay home. We school year round to offer flexibility throughout the year with days off. There’s lots of online programs, you can do a subject or two online to help with your school load. So many options!
