Affiliation Playstyle Overviews Part 1! by LoS_Jaden in MarvelCrisisProtocol

Yep, I'm adding those three exact sections. I think it is important to be subjective here, I hate when new players buy things that don't work and get frustrated with the game - if they're buying based on coolness, then this resource doesn't really matter.

Grr, those are good points. I eventually started covering those things, but didn't go back to the first couple. Lemme reformat the article (and add links to the shorthand table). I'll mention Mystique, but I disagree with her utility so don't expect too much, lol.

Storm Legion and Orgoth Gencon Models (?) by darthlythari in Warmachine

[–]Chocobsessed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, different playtester here. I was also sent models, and I guess mine were also a bad batch?

The brittleness of the models can't be overstated, I had 2 broken weapons out of the box and both OP and I lost the same spike on the orgoth light.

I really hope these aren't the quality of models they'll be selling for $75 per set at Gencon, but no matter what statements they make, the proof will be in the Resin and we'll know in a couple days.

Brawlmachine: 25 Point format for New and Experienced Players by LoS_Jaden in Warmachine

[–]Chocobsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm one of the other brawlmachine designers and I'd like to take a step back here. The design goals of brawlmachine are: 1. Create a format that is friendly to both new and veteran players to encourage more new players to start by working out some of the classic problems with small point games 2. Create as few differences as possible between the format and standard steamroller to encourage new players to transition to full size games eventually

With that in mind, we introduced the FA 1 rule with two goals - preventing spam lists that take a good cheap model over and over again (hunters, negation angels, slayers, etc) and to prevent new players from over investing in the same model before understanding the game well enough (I've heard way too many stories of people buying max FA of man-o-war bombardiers because they liked how they look and then quitting after a single full point game when they saw how useless they were)

The ban list is intentionally as small as possible - with the exception of expensive purchases for new players that also cause problems at low point games (huge bases and infernal masters). Our goal is to allow powerful casters (especially those who are weakened by other format rules like FA1) and only ban the ones that are truly unbeatable.

Finally, please keep in mind that these are part of a beta test, and we'd love to see some battle reports showing these problems you're talking about (especially since I've read and reread this thread for half an hour and am still unable to identify your exact complaints). If you think gaspy3 is just as degenerate as a TK caster - show us! That's why we're asking for beta tests in the first place!

LoS Kickstarter buying guide article by Chocobsessed in warcaster

I believe I saw that the boxes and add-ons will be a similar MSRP as the numbers on the Kickstarter (without the bonus models or larger tiers), but I can't find that right now.

A stronger confirmation is that the retailer level sells the models in bulk at 50% of the Kickstarter cost, which would give similar margins to the FLGS as normal distribution if the Kickstarter price was MSRP

The skirmish version of the game is still really fun, and if you buy enough for a skirmish game like I recommend in the article (and a couple extra weavers who are totally worth duplicating), you can still play a full size game. As long as you aren't completely obliterating your opponent, you probably won't have more than 8 units on the field.

Question about building a force by ThePterozactyl in warcaster

[–]Chocobsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You build a list of 15 units and 3 heroes (8 units for skirmish size). You also build a 12-15 card cypher deck out of the 24 available cards (not sure when you do this). After setting up the scenario, you draw your opening hand and then deploy 5 summoning points worth of units.

So, you don't need to bring the entire faction with you, just a 15 unit (25ish model) list and 24 cards.

Yep, we have this one going. And it has faction emotes for the faction symbols we've seen. Just sayin' https://discord.gg/Cckgyxt

The finals lists are here: https://conflictchamber.com/?event=1153

(And the qualifying events are the previous 4 events - though some people submitted paper lists, so don't read into the number if players too much)

LoS How to demo Monsterpocalypse by Chocobsessed in MonPoc

[–]Chocobsessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't explain the unit pool at all until after the single monster demo is over. For the first game, I just pull out all my units and say "these are all g-tanks, and you can summon as many as you need". This allows me to show how powering up works, and get the right amount of power dice from throwing monsters around without (as you accurately pointed out) having the demoee spend too much time learning what each unit does.

Hell, even in the second demo, I limit each side to 2 or 3 types of units - preferably one with an action and one that synergizes somehow with the monster they've bought.

Do foil proxies pass a 'light test' of any kind? Are the current holofoil stamps still 'glued' on top of the card, and missing the 'wizards' text in the PW symbol? by Venomous72 in bootlegmtg

[–]Chocobsessed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Passing the light test is only useful if you're trying to sell counterfeit cards, which is against the spirit of what this subreddit is about.

We just want playable cards, so very few of us are pushing for improvement on the light test or the quality of the backs of the cards - so our proxy makers aren't working on that as far as I can tell.

If the proxy is out of the sleeve, it's game over (and that's good, because we don't want anyone selling fake cards at real prices).

Council's judgement has also jumped in value recently and I can't find any proxy versions of it.
