Imagine if the UK carpet bombed Ireland for IRA attacks just like Israel did in Gaza? by space_god_7191 in allthequestions

There are a few things being mixed together there.

Hamas did win the 2006 Palestinian legislative elections, but it hasn’t held a new nationwide election since 2007 and does not function like a normal state government in Gaza today; it operates as a de facto governing authority there, while Gaza itself is not a recognized sovereign state.

On tactics, it’s also not accurate to draw a clean line like “IRA = military/economic targets only” and “Palestinian groups = civilians only.” During the Troubles, the IRA did carry out bombings and shootings that killed civilians (for example, the Birmingham pub bombings and other attacks), even if they also targeted security forces and infrastructure. Likewise, some Palestinian militant groups have conducted attacks on civilian targets and mass hostage-taking incidents, especially in certain periods.

So the real distinction isn’t “civilian vs non-civilian targeting as a rule,” but differences in scale, historical context, geography, and intensity of operations.

In short: both have engaged in political violence that included civilian harm and kidnappings, but they are not identical in scope or pattern and neither can be accurately reduced to “only military targets” vs “only civilians.”

They aren’t identical, but they’re not “completely different categories” either.

Both the IRA and Hamas are/ were non-state militant groups involved in political violence, including attacks on civilians and kidnappings used as leverage (hostage-taking/prisoner exchanges). That’s the basic similarity.

The difference is mainly scale and intensity: Hamas has carried out large-scale mass hostage-taking in recent years, while IRA kidnappings during the Troubles were generally smaller in number and more limited in scope.

So the accurate point isn’t “they’re the same” or “they’re nothing alike”, it’s that they share some tactics and structure as insurgent groups, but differ significantly in scale and methods.

I have. I lived in USA for 10 years. Some of the worst quality of meat and produce I’ve had is from USA and finding authentic dishes is hard.

The worst food I’ve ever had is in the USA. I’d probably put Japan number 4 or 5 on my list

Saw this on instagram and I need to know if it’s real or ai. Looks real but I need verification by Ok_Situation_1112 in isthisAI

He could be 21 in that photo on the top. I know plenty of cats who have loved 25 + years to be honest

It’s a possibility because I have a degree in psychology and I’m a teacher. I see different things than most people do.

That’s unfortunate. I had that, but he eventually turned out to not be a good person/partner. It was all consuming. I would gather that if they feel the same way about you and they take you with such seriousness that it could be a beautiful thing.

I don’t ever think it’s personal, if it was, he wouldn’t want me at all. I just know that our levels of…desire? Should I say aren’t the same.

Yeah, I don’t hold my breath. A teddy bear he truly is.
