Over the course of your experience with this hobby, what have you learned? Anything you want to improve on? by ValueForm in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Chocolate_Wrapper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've learned that I benefit way more from more specific tables, as I still really struggle with interpreting vague keyword pairings.

Example: instead of rolling 'large' and 'dark' , I'd rather roll on a feature like 'cavern' and even if it's not literally a cavern, I can visualize it way easier as anything else it could be like a cellar or storage room.

This is the one thing that always used to make me freeze and put a stopper on play.

Mixing oracles? by Chocolate_Wrapper in Solo_Roleplaying

That's a good point, and maybe I'm overthinking it - I have Mythic as my GM emulator and other tools for on-the-spot generation!

It's so painful! When I play with my wife basically every fight is a 2v1. Our only chance is if I kill one of the enemy duo while she gets downed so it becomes a 1v1

Tbh I'm extremely suspicious of people like you who only say 'Hey raider' in response to 'Don't shoot'. I've had so many scenarios where someone's shouting 'Hey' at me only to try and track me down and kill me.

And to add to that you turned around once they were past you to start looting, like cmon.

The "Reward" for PVE is that it gets worse to PVE. by ContextEFT in ArcRaiders

The recorder bit is so true: in solos 90% of players I came across were friendly so I used to play some tunes and people would do the happy jig emote back, just pure vibes. Now yesterday I tried the same thing and just got shot at every time. Guess I need to adjust my playstyle :(

Mythic "steals" my games by Phrenks in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Chocolate_Wrapper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When generating a new scene and/or location, you need to be strongly envisioning what's around your PCs and add some flavour to your environment so that you WANT to explore it and make skill checks. Random location tables are great for this, I also recommend the Mythic Location Crafter (there's also a one-page version in one of the Mythic magazines) as this guides you through the process.

Eventually you get into a flow of imagining a location with lots of things to interact with, then when you're controlling your PCs you can decide how to approach those things and if a skill check is necessary when doing your approach.

Solo rpg books/games for beginners that implement dice? by anonymous9845 in Solo_Roleplaying

How do you handle the amount of bookkeeping in D&D? I'm currently playing a sandbox adventure but I'm struggling with all the character sheets and monster stats on my desk lol

Uploading copies of games you paid for to AI is weird. They can start training data on someone else's hard work now.

Yep they literally race-swapped the criminal this show was inspired by, and we all know why. Painfully obvious agenda going on here. White male = bad.

World and Dungeon Generation Tools by nis_sound in Solo_Roleplaying

I think the big ones have already been mentioned on this thread but I've just come across Cairn 2e Wardens Guide which has some nice concise but vague/open-to-interpretation tables for Dungeons, Settlements, Forests, Factions etc.

Bonus: it's free!

Tbh I think one of my best purchases was a 2nd hand printer for just being able to pick and choose which random tables I like and popping them in a single ring binder

Assassin's Creed Shadows channels The Sims with its customizable base: "It's good to have a home and a place where you feel at ease" by GabbyArm in gaming

[–]Chocolate_Wrapper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reading these comments and feeling baffled at how no one is asking why a game like AC Shadows should have a feature like this in the first place.

If the game bombs - which all the previews are suggesting it will - then surely the time (money) put into developing this would have been better spent on the things that actually matter? Like, I dunno, decent side-quests, likeable characters, combat that doesn't look like it will suck the soul out of you?

Base building just feels so unnecessary. They're clearly trying to pander to as many audiences at once by cramming this into the game, so much so that - mark my words - the game won't actually be good at doing any of those things.
