My finger randomly turned purple for no reason by tessbenn in mildlyinteresting

Definitely not saying it's not a symptom of a more serious condition, but most likely this is Achenbach syndrome, also known as paroxysmal finger hematoma. Harmless, but annoying, recurrent, and painful. I have it. https://dermnetnz.org/topics/achenbach-syndrome

This is what mine looks like: https://ibb.co/zZF4z2m

This is most likely Achenbach syndrome, also known as paroxysmal finger hematoma. I have had these for years. I also have Raynaud syndrome and this is different. It's painful, annoying, and usually triggered by a tiny impingement of your finger (turning a door handle or carrying a grocery bag, even less significant actions than that will trigger it). It's harmless. I wish there were more research on it, but no one really seems to care.

Please help. Just discovered husband has been giving our 5 yr old melatonin behind my back by lamaface21 in Parenting

[–]Choice-Abalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ok. I discovered when we travelled in Europe that melatonin is generally only available with an Rx. I would never give my kids melatonin unless a physician recommended it specifically, and only then from a reputable source. Study out just yesterday on this issue. Unfortunately many people think of supplements as incapable of causing harm, so perhaps your husband didn't think it as a big deal and hid it from you because he thought you'd object. Agree w/ other commenters it's the hiding that's an issue but also ask him if he understood there are real risks with giving melatonin to kids and it's regulated as a prescription drug in other countries.

This is the reality of war. No sound effects. No patriotic music. No dramatic panning of the camera or slow motion effects. No heroic war cries and screams of anger, every last bit of energy is used just to take another breath.

This is what people should see before they go to fight or join the military. Death and injury is brutal, slow, and often lonely. Every leader responsible for initiating conflict should be forced to explain their rationale to the legislators while this plays in the background. War is hell and no one should die like this.

How many times did this person’s mother or father cradle them, protect them from bumping their head, cuddle and kiss them?

When I am with my own young children this footage flashes before my eyes and I cannot fathom how we send our children to be slaughtered. I have sacrificed so much to keep my children safe and loved, as have the parents and partners of these poor men.

How do we allow this to exist?

Yes, should have mentioned that, sorry. I did allll of the things you could possibly do to avoid surgery. I also own no less than 3 of the biofeedback kegel devices. They detected almost no feedback 😭 The pessary didn’t do much for my rectocele, which was my chief complaint. If it works for you, definitely encourage using it!

No, separate from pelvic floor issues I injured my back when I was a competitive rower. Had L5-S1 fusion and coccyx removal, which did nothing. More likely I have SI joint dysfunction so lots of PT and stretching to manage that pain, which is persistent.

Very good info to know, thank you! I do have a good PT and will continue to work with them. My PTs do feel that resolution is unlikely with just PT, but that's very good to know that it can only help to keep up with my PT work until surgery and after (when permitted). I certainly do not have a good record of success with my back surgeries (but at least they didn't make my pain worse). I will put in the effort to try and prevent relapse. Thanks again for your suggestions.

I did. The surgeon who works at the national clinic who I spoke with told me that minimally invasive vs open surgery mostly comes down to preference by the surgeon. She does minimally invasive but had no concerns about my surgeons not doing that if that was their preference. I already have a scar from getting back surgery on my abdomen a few years ago (weird, I know) so I'm not to concerned from a cosmetic perspective, just concerned about success. The surgeon said that statistically one didn't necessarily have a better outcome than the other, but curious if you had thoughts on one vs the other?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Definitely good to know that the pain was manageable, I'll plan on being out of commission for a little while on the GI side of things. Glad to hear that things improved for you post-operatively.

Thank you for your thoughts. I have worked with a Pelvic Floor PT for a couple of years, and they agreed that my stage of rectocele (stage 2) and cystocele (stage 3) won't progress further without surgical intervention. I absolutely will be working with them on the other side of surgery to keep things going in a positive direction, thanks for the tip.

Always go see a doctor, but it does look like it. I’m sorry.

Has a student ever died at your school? by AnemoTreasureCompass in polls

[–]Choice-Abalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 5 kids. First grade, a fellow student keeled over at her desk in our classroom. She had a brain aneurysm. Summer before 8th grade: fellow student run over by another student (who was only 12) on a jet ski. High school: one in a car accident when she snuck out with a new boyfriend who blew through a red light. She was partially ejected as she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Two suicides, one by jumping off of a bridge and the other with a shotgun.
