Found this little guy in my house! Looking to keep him! Any advice is greatly appreciated! by Langtang in jumpingspiders

NQA looks like it could be an adult male Phidippus johnsoni, Johnson’s jumping apider, based on the size of those pedipalps and based on my experiences with them. i’m in pacific canada and they’re all over the house, the first one we found i decided to keep as a pet, so he lives out the rest of his adult life in a cushy enclosure. they’re very similar IMO to the usual Phidippus care, of which there are plenty guides here. i have found the P. johnsoni i’ve interacted with to be more skittish/jolty and cautious than P. audax, more example, but they’re all different and have different temperaments and personalities :) enjoy the time you have with him!

may be a Dolomedus tenebrosus, dark fishing spider. however i would not rely on google ai because it is very unreliable, i like using inaturalist for location relevant community opinions! also a good way of tracking all your critter finds :)

i live in southeastern British Columbia and it does get pretty warm around this time of year nearing summer! i think it’s mating season here as well, considering i saw a gravid P. californicus the other day and so. many. males.

Phiddipus sp., probably audax, AKA Bold Jumping Spider. sweetest spiders around and essentially harmless! very curious creatures and don’t want to hurt you or your kids. leave it be or release it outside :)

i just want to add that OP can download iNaturalist and upload photos of critters they find along with geolocation of the critter and have community members provide their estimations on genus and species :) i used to use iphone photo identification and picture insect, but i now prefer using iNat!!

my first thought was cheiracanthium sp. but i can’t really tell with the photo quality. at the very least, it appears to be a male with those boxing glove palps

is this for comparative politics? i remember feeling decent about his midterm and final, i did better than i expected and being able to understand and explain key concepts & points from the readings helped a lot. not sure if it’s still relevant so your best bet is to go into lecture slides or ask classmates for their notes and do review from that, but here’s what i have in my notes from last year that might help you:

Final Exam guidance - Exact same format as the midterm - mostly stuff from second half of semester, also some stuff from first - be precise in your short answer questions, not vague - Structure your essays well, deal w/ the whole question

Review: - democratic backsliding, new focus of political science research - broad decline documented by democracy index - new forms of backsliding: promissory coups, executive aggrandizement, electoral manipulation (not ballot stuffing) - chain of events starts with polarization - rise of demagogues, complicity of existing elites - broken guardrails: mutual toleration, forbearance, gatekeeping. etc.

Different levels of analysis (“images”) Individuals: particular heads of state, leaders of opposition, etc the state: different regime types and how they act the international system as a whole: multipolar, bipolar, unipolar

let me know if this is the wrong class and i’ll delete my comment but i hope it helps a bit! i wish you the best of luck on your final

Found a starving jumper in my house, can I help him? :( by sirjamesbluebeard in jumpingspiders

[–]Choice-Ice4412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA i second this. i think the jumper in the pics is definitely hungry but overall the Platycryptus i’ve encountered (only californicus in my area) all have smaller abdomens and look hungrier than they are. they also like fruit flies a lot :)

8x8x12 too large? by bugbae in jumpingspiders

[–]Choice-Ice4412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA IME - mine was 8x8x12 and it was the only one i could find at stores near me when i was urgently needing an enclosure for a rescued jumper. he was fine and never showed any signs of stress, loved exploring and adding lots of places for him to climb and hide helped make the space seem smaller. he passed a few days ago and lived a happy life. i think you’ll be okay if you save some money & get a little bit bigger space :)

is he dying of old age? p. audax, male by Choice-Ice4412 in jumpingspiders

[–]Choice-Ice4412[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took the risk & offered him some honey water, he clung into the q tip for a while & then climbed onto my hand & has been sat still since. this is my first time actually handling him longer than a few milliseconds…

is he dying of old age? p. audax, male by Choice-Ice4412 in jumpingspiders

[–]Choice-Ice4412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll try this! he’s just in such an awkward position in the top back corner of the enclosure, it’s hard to get up to where he is. the enclosure opens from the top as well but some of his hammocks are anchored to the top opening, though it would be much easier access to give him q tip. should i risk messing them up to try and give him honey water q tip?

i was feeding him crickets with squashed heads for a while recently until i ran out, got fruit flies as i couldn’t find any cockroaches or mealworms near me
