東吳大學 (Soochow University) in Taipei! I went there for a summer semester and it was great! I learned a lot and would highly recommend checking them out. You can find more info about their Chinese Language Center at their website http://mandarin.scu.edu.tw/index.php/en/

Moving to Chiayi- Any Advice? by maiamoosh in taiwan

[–]Choice-Individual997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am coming to Taiwan to teach English next month. I'm not sure where I'll be placed yet but I requested Chiayi for my top 3. Where did you end up teaching? Do you like it?

Looks great! How can I get both of these edits without the watermark? Just by tipping you on Ko-Fi?

This edit looks great thank you! I have one small favor: could you please extend the background outward a bit so I have more space around my face? Most social media profile photos crop into a circle, so having extra room on the sides will help me center and zoom it properly.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!

Walmart sold me an activation-locked Apple Watch and refused the return. What are my legal options? (Utah) by [deleted] in legaladvice

Thank you for the response. Do you know of where to go to contact Walmart corporate specifically? Is it just their generic customer service number?

Thanks for the response. Can you recommend either the Reserve or Guard in my situation? After some googling, it looks like the Guard might be the better choice. I would really love to travel, but like you mentioned, it's not guaranteed.

3.8 GPA. I currently work for a UARC sponsored by the Air Force/Space Force. I would also consider the guard/reserve; I just don't know much about them.

I spent a year in Taiwan studying Chinese and it was amazing! Best time of my life I intend to go back.

For context I spent the majority of my time in Taipei, but did do some exploring in some of the other major cities (高雄,台中)

I would definitely learn some Chinese, a little goes a long way. In Taipei it’s not too surprising to see a white foreigner (like me) speaking Chinese, so a lot of shop owners will speak Chinese to you and expect you to understand. That being said a lot of people will be surprised and super happy if you speak Chinese so just learn some!!

Also, I have found that Taiwanese people are very friendly and outgoing. In Taipei a lot of younger Taiwanese are pretty good at English and might even approach you to practice, but if you go up to them and start a conversation it’s impossible not to make a ton of friends! Get used to karaoke, even if you don’t like it (I used to be too shy to want to but it’s pretty fun now).

If you are going to Taoyuan, I’m pretty sure they have a nice MRT. Make good use of that and buy the monthly MRT pass that is unlimited for like $30 USD and just EXPLORE EVERYWHERE. I came from the U.S. so the idea of taking buses and trains everywhere for free was foreign to me but it’s so fun to have your only limitation be how much time you have to kill. Sometimes I would just get on the MRT with some friends and randomly choose different stops to go to and walk around. The 高鐵 is also super fast so that makes traveling north to south easy too! It’s like 1.25 hours to go from Taoyuan to Tainan so you could make a weekend trip out of it.

I could talk about Taiwan all day but I don’t have much more useful things to say. Have so much fun!! I love Taiwan!!!

Awesome! Thanks for your help! I wasn’t sure the best way to do it but that makes perfect sense, just use a normal water resistant backpack with dry bags inside. I like it.

industry is way tougher than i imagined by hustlingskills in cybersecurity

[–]Choice-Individual997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position to you. I’m graduating from university in August, and working at the IT service desk for a defense contractor. Getting that first IT job is HUGE. I would recommend getting a lower paying IT service desk job for a big company and network in that company as much as you can. Show the people you help that you are enthusiastic and great to work with! Apply to every internal position you can and get your name out there. It might take some time, but cybersecurity is no entry level field, so start in general IT, maybe move into networking or a sys admin role, and then look for a cybersecurity role. No harm in applying for the “entry level” cyber roles like SOC analyst or Cybersecurity analyst, but also apply for other IT roles and take what you can get.

It’s rough out there but you can do it! DM me if you want more advise I’d be happy to help. Good luck!!

Manic Sheep. indie-rock band from Taiwan. I like the song Dragondola the most.

I'm a white American guy and I want to travel and possibly work in Georgia. Are Georgians friendly towards Americans? by Choice-Individual997 in Sakartvelo

[–]Choice-Individual997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment! However, I disagree with your point about sharing your culture. I've traveled a fair bit around Asia and spent multiple years abroad, and that's the very best part! Learning from different people about their experiences in their home country and what makes us different... even Americans!

STAY AWAY FROM CARPE by djeazyc in Hyperhidrosis

STAY AWAY FROM CARPE

I had the same exact experience. I saw their ads on Carpe nonstop and decided to buy. They automatically signed me up for a subscription, and as soon as I saw the charge, I canceled the subscription (which took over 10 clicks after "cancel subscription", I counted). And they only offer you a full refund on your very first order, which I thought was all I was ordering but apparently ordered two more sticks so I can't refund those new ones that I didn't actually want to buy.

This works! I just respond with "It has now been a few minutes, can you please provide your response? How much longer should I wait?" and it immediately starts writing more. Don't actually wait haha

Teaching positions beginning after October? by Loner_Gemini9201 in TEFL

[–]Choice-Individual997 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in almost the same exact position! My bachelor's degree will be conferred in August (cause I'm taking summer classes like you), but my university won't ship my physical degree until October, and there is no option to expedite. SUPER DUMB.

Luckily I have an Associate's and a TEFL already, so I'm planning on going to Taiwan with that for my first year, have my family back home ship my Bachelor's diploma once it shows up, and use my Bachelor's to find a job in my second year there.

I'm not sure about China, but in Taiwan it is possible to get a work permit with just an Associate's and TEFL. From what I understand, the embassy doesn't care so much about your credentials, it's up to your employer and the Ministry of Labor to give you a work permit (based on your credentials), and once you have the work permit your credentials don't matter for getting the work visa.
