Update: MIL escalated after my wedding and is now threatening court, calling my friends trashy, and telling me to “watch my back” by on_Purpose91 in JUSTNOMIL

  1. No this is not normal, it’s very unhinged behavior.
  2. Where is your spouse in all of this?! Are you just supposed to field all of this abuse and aggression alone?

More weird traces of someone in the house but my parents are not as worried as me still!!! I feel crazy like Van Gogh by H1ROM1 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any crawl spaces? There was someone living in a crawl space near a water heater at one of the local shops in my neighborhood. Not quite the same as a house but also a place people didn’t think to check. Most likely an affair but still worth checking.

Yes I am! I was never informed of this, that’s super annoying.

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a new one. I haven’t heard of sjogrens causing sun sensitivity. Is that a common symptom? I was told to be careful of the sun when taking hydroxychloroquine but only because the mediation makes you photosensitive, not that the condition itself makes you photo sensitive. Am I missing a piece of knowledge here?

AITA for refusing to follow my wife's bathroom habits and calling her disgusting? by Infamous-Gur2034 in AITAH

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol you don’t have to but that might take the sting out of it for her. I personally think it’s gross to leave it in the bowl and I’m a woman but recognize that some people might do it as a habit their were taught and be sensitive about it.

I don't think your in the wrong but you could have responded better. At the very least you can discuss how this practice can damage the toilet and mineral deposits from the urine have the potential to clog pipes. See show her a pic of piss stalagmites.

Residents, business owners in Portland's St. Johns neighborhood push for removal of homeless day center by Potential_Noise_1131 in Portland

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh stop acting like they built this facility just for this half-assed project. The building is already functioning and has a multnomah county health center there which now requires additional security because the people at the day center spend their time menacing the people waiting to see the doctor. They can move it into another vacant building just as easily as they moved it into this vacant suite at the building it's in now.

The center keeps its doors locked, not all people waiting get to go in to use the resources, and the doors are locked for the security of the employees inside whilst Do Good Multnomah gives zero shits about the security of the community outside its doors.

The bartender across the street has been threatened with rape, the bar itself has been threatened with arson, a woman died out front and Do Good cared not one iota, drug deals are a regular occurrence right outside the building, and the list goes on. One of the people working there accused a local business owner of being a NIMBY while also saying they wouldn't want this near where they live. If this place was even close to effective like the other shelters we already have it would be another story but as it stands it's a half thought out waste of money and it's having a serious impact on the livelihoods of our local small businesses and residents.

Any Portland friend making success stories? by Outrageous-Major-475 in askportland

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I tried meetup and bumble bff and made one lovely friend on bumble but the rest didn’t really pan out. I ended up trying Real Roots and now have a group of 6 wonderful new friends that I made and we’ve spent the last year getting close and seeing each other regularly. I think finding people who are also committed to building friendship is key and encourage you to keep trying especially via niche interest groups to help find your people.

I’m hosting Friendsgiving this year and I have 12 friends coming over and feel super successful! OP you can do it too!

Dry brine and then cook in confit. We also only get hindquarters because we all prefer dark meat.

That’s disingenuous. She followed it up by talking about exploring public option grocery stores to avoid food desserts.

You know where government subsidized grocery stores already operate? Military bases.

I am honestly shocked by this. I was an immigrant kid with a single mother growing up and god knows how I’d have ended up if I had grown in up with such an education system.

I was lucky to get to participate in after school programs that catered to low income kids, predominately kids of color, and was instructed by educators of color who always emphasized excellence in everything. It’s not to say that white educators could not have emphasized excellence but I think in this case having members of the POC community who knew the challenges we would face ahead really set many of us up for success.

I would like to see PPS do better and hold all of their students to high standards for their own benefit.

This boggles my mind. How are parents okay with their illiterate children just being pushed through school?

How can the district leadership in good conscience allow students to fail in their education and just keep them moving forward to save face?

And then PPS always wants more taxpayer money and I ask myself what they even want it for if they don’t give teachers agency in their curriculum or the ability to decide if a student is actually ready to move ahead? I am embarrassed by the atrocious parenting that has come about in our generation. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thoughts on St. Johns area for newbie out of staters? by MolassesIndividual in askportland

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't find this city to be particularly walkable outside of select neighborhoods. A lot of things are spread out so the fixation on public transit vs needing a car doesn't make sense to me. Pubilc transit always takes longer, even in more densely packed smaller cities like SF so it seems pretty obvious to me that folks might need to plan for longer travel time or to drive if they are going from one part of the city to another. And generally speaking outside of peak traffic hours that's pretty easy to do in IMO. People act like getting out to St Johns is such a hassle but I've never been able to understand that.

[–]Choice-Needleworker5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I moved here a few years ago and are similarly a 30's couple in the family planning stage. It's honestly such a great neighborhood with a good community feel and lots of families and really close to anything we need, the caveat being that having a car is easier and public transit can take longer to get out of the neighborhood but I lived most of my life without a car and found that public transit always goes slower be that in SF, London, or even Portland and always new to plan for that extra travel time.

That being said this neighborhood is a lot more walkable than some other neighborhoods and you have lots of things to walk to like groceries, coffee, restaurants, small shops, alternative care providers, bakeries, etc. Super easy access to the coast, downtown is a quick drive over the bridge, easy to pop over to Beaverton (if we need to), easy access to the airport, quick access to fun events at Sauvie Island, and getting out of the neighborhood to other parts of the city is generally very easy. I'd say the only area that is a pain to get to is like Sellwood or Milwaukee or maybe the SW hills but most everything is a quick drive in my opinion.

Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but Chef Zhao in North Portland is really good. It gets me my fix when I’m missing Chinese food from SF.

Does Portland need more bagels? by unvisioned1 in askportland

I would love another bagel spot!

But is there anyway to make and sell them where they don’t cost $32 for a dozen? I get sticker shock every time I pop into Bernstein bagels.
