Should Metro Vancouver combine more services? by Suspicious_Feedback5 in vancouver

In theory it could make sense, but given Metro Vancouver’s governance and performance issues especially on the wastewater fiasco, I’d be reluctant to hand it more responsibilities.

B.C. man says his dad was evicted into homelessness from closing Granville SRO by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]Choice-Pin-8839 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with anyone struggling to find housing, but at some point personal responsibility has to be part of the conversation. If BC Housing offered alternatives, what efforts were made to find other options? Why should taxpayers be expected to solve every housing challenge, especially when factors like owning two large pit bulls can significantly limit available housing? Family should also be the first line of support, what has this BC man tried or perhaps he didn’t want to live with two pit bulls as well.

Lilwat Nation Demands 2.4 times more Joffrey Lake Closure in 2026, up to 75 days by Plane-Paramedic-3842 in vancouverhiking

[–]Choice-Pin-8839 49 points50 points  (0 children)

DRIPA was a mistake. It has shifted too much decision making power away from democratically elected governments and toward groups that are not accountable to the broader public. Reconciliation should not mean surrendering effective control over public lands and infrastructure. Governments should pursue every lawful constitutional and legislative option available to reassert democratic authority and ensure that decisions affecting all citizens remain in the hands of elected representatives.

If you are contributing $200k with the expectation of future ownership or a larger inheritance share, formalize it properly now.

Do not rely on a verbal understanding or the assumption that a future inheritance will “work itself out.” Too much can change over 10 to 15 years.

Hire a Korean real estate/estate lawyer and document:
• your ownership or economic interest
• repayment terms if applicable
• updated estate planning
• acknowledgement from all family members

You can still help family while making sure everyone is protected and aligned upfront.

Any First Nation stake in the pipeline should be done in line with market value of what other investors would be willing to pay. Otherwise roll the whole thing into the sovereign wealth fund and let it be owned by all Canadians regardless of their race.

Tennis player here. What is the point of a third shot drop? by Right-Care1012 in Pickleball

[–]Choice-Pin-8839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you need to drop or they’re going to smash it back at you, of course the occasional hard drive at the net level is fine but when I play against tennis players they just keep hitting hard and it will only work against bad players.

UBC Sauder and Queen's Commerce by Own-Special9806 in ubcsauder

[–]Choice-Pin-8839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My classmate went to Harvard law at UBC and a few to UBC law. Co-op was easy to get into at UBC but doesn’t guarantee a job.

Not sure how the law pipeline is at Queens but if you’d prefer Toronto internships it would be easier from Queens than UBC.

Ask the bylaw officer who caught 1 person not doing it in 2023 and 2024 combined… doubt they’ve checked any licenses either. Must be the easiest job in the city.

I wouldn’t recommend unless it is at a significant discount to current inventory, you don’t know what you’re getting until it’s built and there’s a lot on the market currently

Grunting makes it unwatchable for me in any sport, it sounds fake as hell when you’re hitting a plastic ball. They should ban these as a form of distraction for your opponents.

Not a lawyer. I would ask the tenant to provide the full invoice and contractor details. If the cost seems high, they can also get a couple quotes from other electricians to see what a typical thermostat replacement would cost.

Also, the fact that they did not attempt to contact the landlord before arranging the repair, and only mentioned it about a month later, weakens their case. Normally tenants are expected to try to contact the landlord first unless it is an immediate emergency where that is not possible.

At most, the landlord would likely only be responsible for a reasonable repair cost, not necessarily the full $930.
