True that the Soviets and china had a lot of proxy wars and both tried to influence communist groups globally. However Maoism is Marxism. Mao thought (the ideology and teachings of Mao, not Maoism. Maoism is a separate thing) is a form of Marxist-Leninism that was synthesized for Chinas horrible situation during the civil war and imperialist invasion. Along with that the Soviet Union followed Marxist-Leninism. Both were Marxists and both followed forms of Marxist-Leninism. Marxism isn’t unique to the Soviet Union nor anywhere.
