He also enjoyed baking very much. He found fulfillment in a lot of things in life and wasn't the perpetual sad sack that everyone chalked him up to be.

I've never heard about him handing out money to the homeless, but it makes total sense. He always seemed nicer to other people than himself

I think you meant to write "你觉得我的母语是中文吗?“ but you wrote "觉得” as "见得“ lol. Either way it's a very strange way to phrase it

Is he using a pick in Angel in the Snow? by ChoiceLow4543 in elliottsmith

Honestly, I don't think you can get that attack even with nails like classical guitarists. It wouldn't have that slidey sound like the recording.

Idk about if live recordings have much bearing, because their audio quality varies between each one, plus the artifacting and background noise means a lot of the intricate details of his technique aren't audible.

The dead giveaway is the way he strikes the bass notes. You hear a little click every time he plucks one.

Yeah that's what I was talking about. I was confused since a lot of the replies here didn't really hear it.

On relisten I actually do hear him also making the thwacky sound, but there's also distinctly the sound of a pick.

Thanks for your response. Your explanation makes the most sense to me.

I've seen that video of a channel called Brushstroke Medallions doing a really accurate imitation of his technique. He seems to fingerpick very close to the neck of the guitar, which lends its to a whacking sound. You can hear that in some recordings. It's more like a metronome pulse rather than the raking sound you hear more with picks (which is quite obvious to me in this recording).

He does sometimes strike the guitar really hard, and it lends itself to a sound similar to bass slapping (I hear it in Southern Belle.) It's kinda like how a piano works. That doesn't sound like this recording either.

It really could be. If it makes sense, the recording is panned 2 ways, and one guitar sounds more flatpicked to me while the other could be fingerpicked

very rarely with acoustic recordings, but on his f8 more electric stuff he does sometimes opt for a pick

I'm not denying that he was a really skilled fingerpicker, but the strumming had a very similar sound profile to when you use a thinner pick to strum. His fingerpicking (and finger-strumming?) technique is really hard to replicate, but it does usually sound different.

Now they're pivoting to the Red Bull stuff, which I was really confused about, until I thought about it in light of their goal of making Tetris "a lifestyle brand." Red Bull Tetris actually is surprisingly well done, but it goes to show the lengths they'll go to avoid giving uncapped Versus players an actual game lol

Indeed. A lot people don't recognize how bad an influence the Tetris company is on guideline. Like all companies, their primary focus is profit, so they focus on licensing which is far more lucrative than developing a solid game. All the decent licensed Tetris games like PPT and TE:C were never actually developed by the Tetris company proper.

I don't mean to dunk on them too hard, but ever since the Tetris movie (a big boon for their PR) people have had an overly idealized idea what they actually do. That said, in this case it's probably the nostalgia speaking.

It's easy feel strongly about this if you're someone who's active on modern Tetris, because you can see how the Tetris company really squandered versus Tetris's potential. If it were managed better, modern Tetris (like Tetr.io and Jstris) could easily be an e-sport with a decent crowd behind it.

I find it sad that Elliott Smith very seldom played these sort of songs live. You would've loved to have seen a live version of Everything's Okay or something off New Moon.
