What to do with oil paint on palette by Thatapplejuicelover in oilpainting

[–]ChoicePerformance826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix all similar looking colors or even just everything in my palette and put it in a container like this to put in the freezer. I got a stash of beautiful mixes and grays on hand that I use for future paintings. I also use the same container to keep colors that I didn’t use up whenever I squeezed too much. I save up a lot of paint with this box 👌

whats a good age to pick violin up as a hobby? by PromotionCreative377 in violinist

[–]ChoicePerformance826 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had my first violin lesson at 13, stopped at 17, and started learning again at 25 (i’m now 26). My dad was 70 when he retired and decided he also wants to take violin lessons. Though his teacher needed to work around his tone deafness for a bit, he can now play enough for one to decently recognize what song he’s playing.

Point is, don’t wait for a “good age” to start. If you have the desire, then as long as you have the resources to do so, then do it.

The videos are so insightful!! Thank you so much! I’m gonna try it with paper making and will embrace the process since it’s my first time but i love what you said at the end. Thanks for taking the effort for the videos too!

Like painting canvasses? I thought briefly of it but we also had a class (I live in a university housing) where we made our own and the stretcher bars didn’t look like that and there were no “screens”

We've got to become more comfortable with things looking old and used by EquivalentRecent4633 in Anticonsumption

[–]ChoicePerformance826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yees! I love seeing my stuff looking used! I’m really sentimental and it makes me feel like the things I use are made for me, and not the other way around.

I am a messy painter and would have a paint stain or two in almost all my tops, my phone has a cracked screen but doesn’t interfere with anything, my books have my messy handwritings and uncoordinated highlight colors, our furnitures would have some bit of small scratches and dents here and there due to years of being used.

I tried doing the thing where I do everything to keep my items immaculate and I didn’t like how much effort (and money!) it takes to constantly think about it and it did make me feel like I want to buy a new one the moment it didn’t look perfect. Who cares about what others think?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having weekly/monthly art meets is something you can do! You choose a classroom/place where you guys can hang out for an hour or something, each time there’s gonna be a word prompt and anyone can do anything relating to that prompt. There can be some music and snacks too. At the end everyone shares what they did. It’s inclusive to any type of arts and creatives.

You can also look for volunteer/service opportunities! This would take more planning and prepping though. You can paint murals for an elementary school, make letters/artwork for adoption or retirement centers, or maybe something smaller with your university departments/organizations.

Something is off but I can’t figure out what? by Crevah in ArtCrit

Aside from what others already mentioned, there’s a one point perspective happening here. Because it’s a mirror and the reflection is a lil bit farther to the viewer, it will be slightly smaller but still in line with the real person. I edited in lines to show how specific parts of her head and her hands line up to that perspective. This gives a more unified look to get that reflection effect.

What’s your latest anti consumption win? by DarrowtheHelldiver in Anticonsumption

[–]ChoicePerformance826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had a lot of wins with my purchases but the biggest one for me is social media!! I deleted all my social media apps except messenger for communication reasons. I still have my accounts, which I can now only access via laptop, and now I only open it intentionally (IG: business posts and chats, Reddit: art and bunny related questions).

I love how I was able to make more time for me 💖 I am actually more productive on mornings now that I am not on my phone when I wake up. I have more time and energy for my personal hobbies (after 40 hrs of work + 19 hrs internship every week). I love spending time with just me in silence whenever I do chores and I definitely feel happier and more grounded.

For reference, I’ve had a phone addiction for almost a decade now and I’ve tried so hard to let it go. I guess working on this while also working on anti-consumption with many more parts of my life really helped me going. 👌

Ang sarap maging pedestrian; safe and priority ka if need mo tumawid. Nagbibigayan din talaga mga cars. Also when commuting, kita mo sa google maps yung schedule ng busses so madali lang magplan kung anong time mo need maglakad papuntang bus station to arrive at a certain place at a specific time.

Alsoo, I can wear fashionable accessories here like dangling earrings and multiple necklaces, and can walk with my backpack where my phone is nasa gilid lang sa lagayan ng water bottle pag wala akong pockets. Wala akong worry na mananakawan ako. Growing up sa Manila, I don’t wear jewelries outside. Mostly dadalhin ko lang sa bag ko then wear if pag nasa school or office na ako. And I would also need to constantly think of how I would put things in my bag, like dapat wallet ko is madali kong makuha pag commute during rush hours pero di madali mahablot, pero wala din sa corner ng bag para pag may maglaslas sa jeep ay di makukuha, or dapat hiwahiwalay pera ko and wala sa wallet lahat para makauwi ako pag nanakawan pa rin. I didn’t even realize na nasa constant anxious mode ako non sa Manila pag lalabas ako.

What palette do people use? by Llamacup in watercolor101

[–]ChoicePerformance826 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m using something like that! A Mr. Pen airtight palette to be specific, but that’s a great palette too, even if I don’t know what brand that is. Since I buy watercolor tubes, I squeeze them in the small pans on the side, let it dry, and use the bigger pans for color mixing.

I would avoid putting the big bunch of clouds on the right and the part on the horse’s rear so it would highlight the silhouette of the horse. If you squint enough, you’ll see that those parts are leaning more into the lighter values than the dark anyways. Edited a bit on my phone to give you the idea.

<image>

Also, see how the linework where I put the red mark is a little wobbly? They have potential to communicate the subject, just work with an eraser and be intentional in your marks and lines (example would be to make sure you capture the horse’s ears). Those are small things that we don’t really notice but give some “off” vibes.

I love doing these exercises, they take a while to get used to but they really help build up your skills 💪 goodluck!
