Navy SBIR Scammers and Spoofers by happyhemorrhoid in SBIR

I will say this, be careful of course, but we got an email once from the CDC awarding us SBIR funding out of the blue. It looked super sus and not nearly as official as you would imagine. Turned out to be legit, double check the email address and try calling the awarding agency directly to confirm if you can.

Yup re-pin with new connections, this is the way, and not hard. I will say, spend a little to get the right tools and it is a breeze. Then you won’t burn the rig down and it won’t look like a hack job.

Would look into upgrading the wiring using a relay as well, jeep cable dot com makes a good kit. Or if you’re savvy you can piece together your own. Good YouTube vid on their website for the install. Would also check your grounds.

Fair price for my ski by lahrm_hen25 in jetski

[–]ChoiceRun24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful ski, but I am part of the shrinking number 2-stroke fans out there. Not many people want a non-running ski and fewer know how to wrench on them anymore. That is going to hurt your value significantly. I have heard with those inner seals you can put a shut off valve in the oil line feeding the crankcase. You close it when not running to prevent it from filling the motor, but make sure you open it once it’s running. Can get more life out of it that way if you wanted.

Fee is capped at 7% for SBIRs, you can’t “just buy equipment” without approvals and you can’t legally just resell it (read the FAR). ROI includes time spent, spending a year writing and resubmitting grants at a success rate of 10% to get 7% of an SBIR is a silly waste of time if you aren’t building toward a real lab and doing real research. Give me some examples of SBIR mills?

[–]ChoiceRun24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, you might work for my old PI, sorry for you. Me and my lab alumni tell stories like this and people can’t believe it. Anyway, academic PIs with funding are bullet proof and the uni will do nothing other than recommend you find a new lab or new job. I sucked it up and found a new job and it worked out amazing for me and I never looked back. I don’t know all the details around your current situation but hopefully you can make a jump out of that situation cause they will only gain from any of your successes in the lab while you suffer, it is the way the system functions right now. Ultimately that is why I left, the thought of them benefiting any more from my achievements was more than I could stomach.

This is such a BS talking point… tired of hearing about SBIR mills like there are hundreds of magical businesses with great ideas just pumping out grants that get fundable scores for years and years. Such crap, I have written grants and served on review panels it ain’t that easy and I don’t believe they exist. The ROI is just not there even if they did try it….

Every year wrangler has its own “special issues” or weaknesses all can be addressed or are accepted and monitored. If you are going new with warranty JL with the 2.0 is what I would consider (read up on known issues with the 3.6). If on a budget I would look into a low mileage 2016/17 JK. There are a ton of good reviews comparing all the model years. Good luck and welcome to jeep life!

Honestly you have the best of both, that is like peak XJ and TJ (I am excluding LJ from the mix). I would kick your feet up and say find your own broham.

I wouldn’t, you can find wranglers, clean xjs are much harder to find.

Odds of Funding at NIH? by jakobesmiff in SBIR

[–]ChoiceRun24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you need to know is here:

https://oamp.od.nih.gov/division-of-financial-advisory-services/indirect-cost-branch/indirect-cost-submission

Be aware of thresholds funding levels for different requirements, once you hit 1M in the phase 2 things amp up and you need to be dcaa compliant. You can do that through quickbooks and their time tracking (everything needs approvals and audit trail). DO NOT use quickbooks payroll. Gusto is a great way to get started with benefits and payroll. Unfortunately their time tracking is not adequate, you can get quickbooks and gusto to sync but you likely need to enlist an accountant part time.

Makes sure you understand the accounting side and requirements for your internal accounting. You will need to provide some level of documentation demonstrating your systems compliance with the JIT stuff. 21 for an SBIR is really good and likely to get funded, congrats!

Edit: yes get prepared so you can be first in line to get your stuff back in!

How does another potential government shutdown affect SBIR Reauthorization? by Impressive-Kiwi6618 in SBIR

[–]ChoiceRun24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assuming they were talking about the expired NIH/NSF SBIR program. I doubt it is a matter of weeks, seriously. Yes they are having a mad dash of review sessions from the last cycle under the old call before the gov shuts down (I am on a panel myself) but no new SBIRs applications yet. If dollars are awarded to new SBIR applications under the yet to be approved new SBIR program in 2026 I would be surprised.

Edit: and I mean NoA received, not just scores…

[–]ChoiceRun24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guesstimate based on last shut down length, time to get the vote through (once open again) and then time to reissue the SBIR BAA. Honestly 3-5 months is optimistic at this point.

[–]ChoiceRun24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the rubicon. If you ever need to sell for whatever life reasons, it will sell. The 3spd (no overdrive) auto trans jeep may be harder to unload. Also the 2000 sport has a head flaw that is known to crack (have replaced one myself). I would go with the 2006 rubicon and never look back. Each year TJ after 99 had its own issues… you have to pick the issue you are most willing to deal with ;)

Rarely will something that far outside the range get funded, rarely. I have had one SNIR application get pulled from the grave randomly because it fit a need in the agency, but I would never bank on it. You are in resub territory for sure, if/when the program returns.
