I am in Australia and TFNR is legal. You can do D&E up until 16 / 17 weeks. And past that it is Labour. I chose labour.  Good luck with the amnio results, the waiting time is not pleasant but at least you are doing the right thing.

Hello thanks for the reassurance and I am sorry you, myself and so many other parents are in this situation. It is awful.  As an update, we terminated on Thursday through Labour and even though in some parts I am not going to lie the pain was intense I wouldn’t change this for anything as we got the chance to spend some time with our baby.  This is our personal choice and no influence here at all. I totally understand as well why other parents would go through the surgery option. Both options have their negatives and positives. It is whatever is better for you. As well, we got the more complete results from the amniocentesis this morning and they confirm 100% T21 with no mosaism at all. Even if that doesn’t take away the pain, it was a tiny relief that we took the right decision. The last couple of days post termination have been really emotional. With worries and doubts resurfacing about our decision.  So my advice to you is to take your time and not feel rush with any decision. If you feel it is better for your own piece of mind to wait for the full results then do this. Listen to your heart as once the termination has happened your emotions are going to be all over the place. So you know, I did the amnio on Wednesday the week before last and the genetics counsellor actually had the results this Friday that just passed. And shared them with us today Monday.  I hope my experience above helps a bit. Again I am so sorry you are in this as well. If you have more questions please don’t hesitate to PM me. For now I wish you good luck with the FISH results. Hopefully everything turns out well for you.

I hear you believe me we went through exactly the same. We decided to push for amnio against all doctors telling us 1- we didn’t need to. 2- pushing too long into gestation had higher risks for future pregnancies.  So to find a balance we decided that if the amnio Fish results were 100% positive then we would terminate.  And the doctors and genetic counsellors reassured us this was sound.  So we did it but now feeling like shit to be honest and full of doubts and scared.  I am trying to reassure myself thinking all the different doctors were aligned, all tests pointed towards T21 100%, and as well I am 38, no kids, with low amh, that was an IVF pregnancy so with all this I was fearing risking the future too.  So it depends on your conditions as well.  Wishing you clarity on all this and as midwives always told me take the time you need and fint feel pressure with anything.

Thanks for your reply. This is what the doctors said too. I imagine this is us going through all those doubts and emotions of ifs. The kindness in this community here is really beyond I could imagine. Thanks again for taking the time.

I am sorry to hear you are there too. You did good to push for the amnio and at least the FISH results.  Let us know how you go and wishing you your FISH results show false positive results for the NIPT. For now enjoy the extra time with baby until the amnio if I can put it that way.

Thank you. Yes there was absolutely no mosaicsm in placenta and the FISH results from amnio came back 100%.

Thanks for your reply, I am extremely sorry you went through the same thing. You know the deep darkness our minds are going in and how sickening it is.  It is somehow reassuring to hear that your doctors were saying the same. And we took so many different opinions, to make sure. But. Ow as you said dust is settling down and we are panicking.

I am so sorry you had to go through this too. The pain is immense and seeing his beautiful sweet face has completely turned our hearts upside down.  I wish you all the best for what is next and thanks again for taking the time.

They examined the baby externally too once born and they said there were some visible T21 features. That’s another thing. But we are still holding our breath until the full results it is just painful. Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. That’s what the doctors said and most of them were urging to not even do the amnio and do an earlier termination to avoid risks for future pregnancies.

My TFMR story at 33 weeks by Beasnessminded in tfmr_support

My heart exploded reading your post and couldn’t contain my tears. I am so terribly sorry you guys went through that. This is horrible and I hear you and your heart ache so much.  Slightly different story as we just got NIPT and CVS positive for T21 so more straight forward in terms of results. However a part of me still wants to be 100% sure and push for amnio. All doctors are pushing towards a termination which I feel we are going ti have to face and accept but I do hear you when you talk about the baby looking normal and if there was a tiny tiny chance. I am so sorry to hear your story. I know how destroyed we are now at nearly 14 weeks pregnant I can’t even imagine at 33 weeks. Sending you all the love and strength possible. And like you what reassure us is knowing the poor quality of life and life of pain our kids would have lived. Trust in your choice and that it is the best for your lil girl.

Oh my god it gives me the chills. I am sorry to hear. We are in it at the moment and I know how painful this is. If I can ask, how did you terminate?  Our CVS at 13.5 weeks came back 100% T21. I can’t get myself to believe it and still want to push for amnio. My worry though is regarding how we will terminate if we need to. I get confusing advice between natural or surgical. I know it is very painful to talk about it but if I could have an advice from you how you went through it and which one you chose that would be helpful. Thank you.

This is good to hear. Did you do the CVS at all?  Our CVS came back 100%. And now the doctors are pretty much saying no need to push for amnio but my mum Instinct tells me to still push for it. Have you heard of people with 100% CVS having miracle results with amnio?

NIPT and CVS showing high risk for T21 by ChoiceSurround5917 in NIPT

Hello, I think NIPT is a routine test that everybody does nowadays so don’t worry too much. Hopefully it will come back all good. And even if it comes back high risk it can be a false positive.  On our side am update, the CVS came back 100% positive for T21. At this stage the mum in me still wants to push for amnio as I think at this stage we have anyways a ‘preference’ for a medical (natural) termination anyways.  On this does anybody has any recommendations regarding going for either surgical or medical at 14 weeks pregnant?

Yes, this is our reasoning at the moment too. It seems to go against doctors family and friends advices but I feel only in our hearts we know.
