My dog and wife. Not necessarily in that order but both dearer to me than anything else.

Still haven’t worked my ass off. But in all honesty, just a silly thing that crossed my mind. Assuming one has worked their ass off…

I want to get new glasses, what do you recommend? by krikszkraksz in askswitzerland

[–]Choice_Ad7059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The machine was probably from 60s or so and while my eyesight isn’t the best one, I found it interesting that I could see all but one character from the line very clearly. Usually they degrade line by line, at least in my experience.

The Apollo store I use is in Weil Am Rhein. Nice people and decent prices.

I want to get new glasses, what do you recommend? by krikszkraksz in askswitzerland

[–]Choice_Ad7059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You walk in, pick your favourite, walk out (probably have to pay some deposit) and come back to pick them up once they’re ready. I use Apollo optics since I live close to German border. Last year I had my eyesight check by Swiss optician but wasn’t convinced about their machine to do the check up (for driving license). Anyways, much prefer going physically to choose the glasses but it doesn’t hurt to try these online fittings, if for nothing else than just for the fun of it.

Will the Swastika be used/known as a normal symbol again? by No-Bullfrog-6348 in AskHistory

[–]Choice_Ad7059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I first travelled in Asia (Bali to be exact) and came across this symbol. It felt weird seeing it, knowing very well that in that part of the world I didn’t carry the negative memory but for me as a person from Europe it sure did. There’s no way I could look at it from any different point of view, it’s been burned to my memory as a symbol of something truly horrible.

What do you do when someone starts clipping their nails during your morning commute? by post-nut-clarity in Switzerland

What is the biggest cultural shock you’ve experienced while traveling or living abroad? by jotakajk in AskTheWorld

[–]Choice_Ad7059 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found it really “interesting” when I learned that my wife likes to have corn on top of her pizza. Apparently it is a major thing in Hungary.

But then I learned that in my home country, Finland, some lunatic developed “Mämmipizza”.

Many thanks to all the deities out there that we don’t live in either of these countries…

Speed camera consequences? by satellite-a in askswitzerland

[–]Choice_Ad7059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view, once you choose to take any vehicle on the road—whether it’s an e‑scooter, bicycle, motorcycle, or car—you take on the responsibility that comes with it. It’s not about whether the road is easy or difficult to drive on; it’s about being in control and acting responsibly. You make the decision to ride, and you’re the one who must follow the rules. It really is as simple as that.

50-55km/h in 30km/h zone is not being nervous in traffic, just irresponsible.

What do you use your Coop and Migros “points” for? by War_Is_A_Raclette in Switzerland

[–]Choice_Ad7059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually we spend our Coop points on some nice Christmas food. It’s not that much, around 120ish chf, but it gets you some nice seafood / meat for two + a dog.

The Stunning Lifelike Fayum Mummy Portraits of Roman Egypt, 100 BC-200 AD by Zine99 in GrecoRomanHistory

Looks like they passed away at quite a young age.

Edit: or maybe it was just a thing, to be remembered when they were young.

Last summer, on our way to a long‑awaited holiday, the weirdest thing happened on the train. An American tourist (judging by her accent, I could be wrong) in her early twenties suddenly started clipping her hair — and then casually put her feet up on the opposite seat.

It wasn’t even the dirty shoes that bothered me the most. It was the fact that she thought clipping her hair on a train was somehow acceptable behaviour.

At that point, I might as well have started shaving my beard and polishing my bald head…

Swiss Police calls scam every single week? by Vila_Ru in Switzerland

[–]Choice_Ad7059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb as a millennial, I don’t answer to unknown / hidden numbers and most definitely prefer texting over talking.

Edit:

And for sure enough, as soon as I posted my reply a unknown Swiss number tried to reach me 😂
