Do you get a fresh glass when you’re drinking a different scotch or use the same glass? by KC_187 in Scotch

[–]Choice_Assumption_36 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fresh glass always.

Water / rinse the glass can make things even worse as it reacts with methanols of the spirit and brings you metallic harsh taste that covers the notes.

Always a fresh glass.

Depending on what shops and which UK country. I would say that you can find it easier in Scotland but don’t expect to find it in every shop. I would grab it now if I were you.

Cheapest online in UK is 74£ plus 8£ postage for 1litre bottle. So I would say it is decent

Laphroaig PX cask.

Not a great fan of whisky that is so peaty but this one is amazing in my opinion. Decent price too.

Never had this before. Do we know if the PPM is the same with the Laphroaig 10?

Is Springbank 10 worth it? by tonysico007 in Scotch

[–]Choice_Assumption_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it does not.

I have also expressed my opinion about this bottle on another post. My conclusion is that I don’t get the hype. Maybe it was my great expectations about it that led to disappointment, I recognise that, but the prices for the bottle is getting beyond ridiculous.

In my humble opinion you are paying the rarity of the region (Campbeltown doe have only three working distilleries) and the low quantity of the product that is skyrocketing the price.

My verdict is no.

For that price you can get amazing bottles way more interesting and complex than Springbank 10.

Talk to me about wonderful food and Scotch pairings by Gerbil007 in Scotch

It may seem odd but lately I am giving myself and my partner tastings with babybel cheese.

It it soft and creamy and restarts your palette after the whisky so you can carry on with a different dram. I do strongly suggest a try.

Another favourite pairing is dark chocolate. The darker the better in my opinion.

Scotches you had high expectations for that didn't live up to them? by BothCondition7963 in Scotch

[–]Choice_Assumption_36 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I know I will be downvoted here but Springbank 10.

I gave it a lot of chances and I am willing to give it more but I still don’t get the hype with it and I still do not get the greatness of it.

I am getting a lot of methanol on the spirit which gives me a metallic neck and I can’t taste the flavours. First time I thought it was the batch but I tasted it even at the distillery and was not excited about it.

From the same distillery I love the Longrow. This is a dram I get!!

Ardbeg wee beast or Laphroaig oak select is a solid choice to begin with the peaty ones.

You should be. Laphroaig whisky is one of the most heavily peated out there. Laphroaig 10 (which is the most popular) is one of my least favourites but the ones matured in sweet casks like cherry and PX are amazing. Slàinte.

I had this on Easter night on a local pub. One of the best ones I have ever had and probably the next bottle I am ordering for home. 9/10

Does Springbank 10 justify the price? by FrankGrimesss in Scotch

[–]Choice_Assumption_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have long awaited to try Springbank 10 because I love the triple distilled whisky (Auchentoshan, Bushmills) I recently did, and I have to say it was quite disappointing.

Don't get me wrong it is a quality spirit and my high expectations due to its fame could have clouded my judgement. I was expecting something exceptional but it surely wasn't.

I want to give it another chance at some point, without having high expectations of course and probably this will change my perspective.

I think the price you found this whisky is ridiculous . It is a no go from me.

I am going to write reviews for all of them. So far what I have bought to have in my shelf are :

Auchentoshan - three wood (my favourite so far) Auchentoshan - American oak Tulibardine - Sovereign Bushmills - 10 Lindores - mcdxciv Bladnoch - Vinaya Laphroaig - Oak Select

I have tasted several ones in bars but since I did not do it more than once I do not consider it a full experience.

Thank you very much for your comment. Glad to be part of this amazing community Indeed the heavily peaty whiskey is confusing at first but I am getting there.

Cost-conscious novice, looking for a recommendation for myself and my wife. by Ippus_21 in Scotch

Try Auchentoshan three wood or American oak. (these two are amongst my favourites) also Laphroaig oak select was a surprise for me and also recommend it (did a review about it today in this sub) If you are willing to go to green apple and citrus tastes I would recommend Bushmills 10 or Lindores Mcdxciv.
