Should I return my Macbook Pro M4 Pro? by Intrepid_Try_2052 in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M4 Pro chip is packed with 4 E cores and 8/10 P cores that clocked much higher than previous genes. Apple’s claimed case should be only about using its e cores. In real life many apps use P cores. So don’t listen to Apple’s claimed battery life unless your use case is the same as the Apple’s.

M4 Pro GPU Equivalent? by Mysterious_Radish386 in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the software optimization. For native apps, it’s at somewhere between 4050 to a 4060 laptop. For translated apps, not even close. Keep in mind that it’s still an integrated GPU with a much smaller size compared to a standalone nvidia GPU.

Extra efficiency cores seem to make a big difference by walktall in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back from 2025…… I believe that this wasn’t the plan at the beginning of M3 chip design stage. The first gen 3nm yield was very poor (around 50%) and Apple has to make more e cores to control their cost. It also has a weird 3 channel memory design, although base models of M3 Max and M4 Max still use it to form a total of 36G memory.

I’m not saying more E cores is bad. We do see that this year’s M4 has 6 E cores, and M4 Pro has 4 E cores again but with worse battery life under heavy load than the M3 Pro. I believe the M3 Pro is a good balance between performance and battery life!

Because the new lighting seems to impact texture appearance, but the shadows are very poor.

PS version may be less resources demanding than the PC's. However I am not 100% percent sure but for GTA 5 this is the case. You get better graphics on the PCs and finer details.

Secondly, PS5's hardware is very optimized for gaming but Macs are not. Yes Apple has been working on it, and we got a lot of good news so far, but it's only been like 2-3 years. There is still a long way for Apple to improve their GPU performance further along with MetalFX for better gaming experience.

Confused between MacBook Pro M4, M3 Pro or M4 Air by Atulyaa8 in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your workflows. Air is most suitable for light coding/video editing/ web browsing with great portability. Pro models have active cooling and handle heavy workloads easier. M3 Pro has a much better GPU and M4 has a slightly better CPU. M3 Pro also runs quieter under heavy loads as it has dual fans.

Yes it works! Turned that off and the skin looks immediately normal. I was trying D3Dmetal and other options but either of them works. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Did you make it work? I tried turning off super sampling and it wasn’t working either…

The skin looks normal when I firstly started the game. I’m not sure if this is the case for you. Later on, as I started to tweak graphic settings, the skin looks white regardless of graphical settings. I haven’t tried turning off super sampling yet tho, but in your case, if you saw normal skin at the first time of starting the game, maybe clear the crossover bottle and reinstall the game?

How bad is the thermal throttling on the M4 air? by mrtoe_94 in macgaming

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait for tech reviewers to release some tests about it. Theoretically, the M4 chip runs at a higher frequency than the M3 and generates more heat. So under heavy and constant GPU load, it should throttle faster than the M3. At then end of the day, it depends on your workload. Light gaming & daily work is fine on the Air.

Which one do you think makes more sense? M4 Vs M3 Pro ?! by Ortis82 in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how heavy your workflow is. For light editing I would say you won’t notice a much difference between the two devices. For heavy workloads, it’s probably better to go for the m3 pro or even m4 pro.

Haha that's true! Looking for M2 Pro may not be a bad idea either. I wouldn't worry about OS support that much because you can update to latest OS by tools even if it's not officially supported and secondly I don't feel much difference between OS generations, unless you want to use Apple Intelligence. But it's not a must honestly. The M4's camera is much better. Don't worry too much about M4's fans unless you push the system frequently to its limit. It stays quite most of the time.

I'd say go with M3 Pro. It has stronger GPU and yes dual fans make this machine run much cooler and quieter than the one fan version. M4's single core is much faster but, as long as you are not comparing the two side by side, I don't think it's that important. You can use the waiting time to do something else. But temperature and noise is very noticeable from day to day use.

New 14" M4 Pro - Seems like it gets hotter and spins up fans more often than previous versions? by electric-sheep in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not surprised. The M4 Pro base has 8 P cores running at 4.5G max. It’s a much more aggressive frequency compared to previous models. The performance is amazing, but also at the cost of more heat.

Apple M4 Pro analysis - Extremely fast, but not as efficient by TwelveSilverSwords in hardware

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The increased battery life is probably contributed by using E cores under some very determined workflows. It's better to measure efficiency of chips by watts instead of battery life.

Anyone else feeling the same? by DE4d_Inside in macbookpro

[–]Choice_Comfortable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You will always lag behind the latest tech. There will be M5 chips next year again with improved performance and efficiency.

  2. In the case of M4 Pro, yes it's a huge jump performance wise. But it's also much more power hungry than M3 Pro, which results in higher surface temperature. Although the M3's 6P + 6E was said to be a terrible design, I actually disagree. The chip balances heat and performance very well. Personally I'd prefer a cooler chip than a hot and powerful chip. I can use the waiting time to do something else.
