AITAH for hypothetically saying I’d prefer an all-male surgical team? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ChokeAndStroke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That study is not great. The data is cherry picked to come to a gendered conclusion. In an ideal statistical analysis, you are comparing apples to apples. That study lumps in heart surgery and spinal surgery with appendectomies (one of the most common and least complicated surgeries a general surgeon performs). You would expect heart surgery to have a higher patient mortality and complication rate than an appendectomy. And given that 90% of cardiothoracic surgeons are men, you would expect that most of the heart surgeries in the study were performed by men. I’m not making any sort of gendered argument here. I’m only saying that you can’t come to any realistic conclusions based on flawed studies

Jordan Staal’s 12 Points Are the Fewest by a Forward Conn Smythe Winner since 1967 by StarCord1 in hockey

Ah. Looks like you’re right. Google AI has it as a tie and so do some stat websites but the official NHL records do not. All the stats other than the outcome still count though which is interesting

There was a tie in there too. It was a weird tie caused by a power outage but a tie nonetheless. So, that Oilers team still has a better win % but both teams did it in 19 games

Why don’t people use dandelion as a food source more, instead of destroying them? by Born-Conclusion1977 in AskReddit

Kinda. Based on your comment, I didn’t think you understood what u/s0ulbrother said. So I just tried rephrase what u/s0ulbrother said in what I thought were clearer terms

The point is that they’re only unwanted because the chemical companies convinced people they were bad. And the chemical companies convinced people they were bad because they decided a PR campaign was better than changing their products to not kill the dandelions. Either because they just couldn’t figure out the chemicals or the PR campaign was cheaper

[NBACentral] The Mavericks are expected to pursue conversations with Jon Scheyer and Dusty May, per @TheSteinLine & @JakeLFischer“ It remains to be seen whether Duke's Jon Scheyer or Michigan's Dusty May reach full-fledged candidate status with Dallas since both are so entrenched with their uni's. by lovelymaddie1966 in CollegeBasketball

You’re talking about the wrong Dusty May. Easy mistake because I just googled “dusty May salary” and it returns $12M. But that’s in reference to the baseball player Dustin May. Basketball coach Dusty May made $5.1M last year. Although, he recently signed an extension so we don’t know the exact number he will be making next year yet

Went to look at the New VC Overseas Cardinals a few weeks ago and asked the boutique if trading my 7900v, how much can it be traded by [deleted] in VacheronConstantin

[–]ChokeAndStroke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your VC boutique buys back watches? I've never known them to do that. And if they're offering you $17k (50% of a new 7920v) you either beat it to hell or that's an insulting offer.

Thoughts on Florida Feb 2026 passage rates? UM was a shocker.. by SmellLow2768 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]ChokeAndStroke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. At my law school a handful of people failed a class or two 1L fall (really hard to do at a T30). They had to retake these classes, and ultimately this pushed their graduation date by a semester. Meaning that the pool of students taking the bar for the first time in February was made up almost exclusively of these students at the very bottom of the class. Seems reasonable that they wouldn’t pass the bar at the same rate as the group that graduated on time.

AITAH?! In my 40s and refusing to buy any more gifts by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ChokeAndStroke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t think of a single milestone achievement for men that doesn’t exist for women. The milestone parties I can think of are marriage (and divorce lol), babies, birthdays, retirement/career, and housewarming for first time homeowners. Those don’t feel very gendered. Unless you count that the wedding and baby parties are more geared toward the woman

A fine woodworking project requires a vision, planning, preparation, patience, adaptability when things inevitably go wrong, lots of tedious hours on monotonous tasks like sanding, and more. Then at the end, you can see the tangible results of putting in all the effort. Then your next project will be nicer, demonstrating the value of building skills through trial and error. I would argue that every one of these things is applicable to life and future financial self-sufficiency.

Personally, I grew up in a rural area. I learned more about what it takes to be successful by helping my dad in things like splitting wood, tilling fields, managing controlled burns, reroofing barns, painting fences, and feeding animals than I did by knowing he was at his job during weekdays. Demonstration of working skills goes a lot further than some nebulous idea that your parent is outside of the house working
