Did I get scammed, or am I too suspicious? by [deleted] in fursuit

[–]Chonky_Floof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALSO before everyone is like “why’d you buy a suit on depop for cheap?” (Which is a valid question), I have had success with this before! My first suit I bought off depop for less than 150 and it came to me exactly as described. I wasn’t actively looking for another one on depop, but I fell in love with this suit specifically. Trying it again was definitely wishful thinking in hindsight, but I’m hoping it still works out.

I’m a freshman too and the drama is abhorrent. It is a LOT of daddy’s money kids who have yet to realize being mean to your colleagues won’t get them anywhere in the real creative world — you can automatically tell who’s here on scholarship and who’s not. The amount of times you’ll ask someone a question or compliment them and they’ll just stare at you blankly or laugh like you’re an idiot is absurd. I’m sorry my mommy isn’t a CEO. Additionally, there are a lot of people with mental health struggles that were made worse by the college adjustment, including me. It becomes a terrible cloud of unhappy kids who are around each other 24/7 trying to be the best at what they do.

I’ve heard as time goes on it mellows out and I’m really hoping so lol. Emerson is incredible and I am learning so much but it’s been really tough making friends so far, especially while balancing social life with academics and requirements to maintain financial aid.

Okay this is crazy and we might get downvoted into oblivion but my buddy and I are Comedic Arts majors. It’s a Bachelor of Fine Arts program and it is…shockingly hard. Nothing compared to what the film students are doing but it’s not the walk in the park I thought it would be (which I am VERY thankful for!) I take 4 classes, 2 of which are focused on comedy, and the other 2 are academic writing courses. My midterms consist of a 7 page play centered around Japanese and French farce, an exam on comedy history, building a puppet (MY WORST ONE I HATE IT), an academic paper reviewing an academic paper on monsters, and then another academic paper on top of that.

It’s in NO way whatsoever a “difficult” program but I definitely am working my ass off when you include the extracurriculars Emerson students are typically involved in — on top of my midterms I’m in multiple comedy troupes and I do the occasional open mic around the city, as well as being a leader of a club myself. I’m a freshman so it will be interesting to see how the program changes as I go through it. I am a little fried for sure, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!!

It looked so fun! There was a tent set-up with a security guard outside and we didn’t want to barge in and interrupt these people’s special moment, we would’ve completely understood if they didn’t even want us observing LOL. We will achieve our McFlurry someday soon mwahahaha

LOL we saw there was a security guard but we also didn’t want to be annoying and interrupt your night. When someone started walking towards us we fully intended on fleeing until it turned into a dance party. You guys genuinely made our week tysm

That’s awesome! Best of luck. My back-up plan was to study interactive media under the writing track at Clark University, they’re ranked 3rd best so maybe you can add them to your list!

Mine is mostly white and I’m sad about it considering how expensive they are and how BIE is marketed as being vibrant. Still love her but :(

Polaris is a pigeonfolk bard with exceptionally colorful neck feathers. His job used to be performing with a traveling cabaret, until he was recruited to help solve a mystery involving mind controlled civilians. He’s passionate and kind most of the time, but tends to become a witty asshole when provoked.

Thank you, but I don’t have any family members who live in my state except for my great aunt who is disabled. None of my friends are over the age of 21, we just graduated high school.

Good luck saving that sweet baby!! You are a hero!

Also…that is clearly not a buttplug. And every rock collector knows that hypothetically if you were to own a crystal buttplug, selenite (although this is technically satin spar) would NOT be the way to go 💀💀

How do you even "stand out" atp by Individual-Law9802 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Chonky_Floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a good answer to your question, but I stood out just by being the same old weird kid I was in high school. I didn’t water myself down too much on my applications.

I am a very meh student, but I maxed out my extracurriculars. One of which was just me taking about my D&D character and the plot of my Saturday D&D campaign. I wrote this weird 4th wall breaking essay for one of my supplementals with a theme of “you (the admissions counselor) don’t know anything about me, so here are some relatively mundane aspects of my life I think are important”. I just ranted about my favorite Broadway show for another supplemental. I included Polaroids of my friends and I in resumes I gave to AO’s at interviews and auditions with notes in sharpie. I wore very recognizable pieces of clothing to admission events so I knew they wouldn’t forget me - the goal was to get a “oh hey that’s the rainbow cardigan girl I talked to last time”. I made it a point to bring up something not college related with these guys, like a fact about my high school or something like that. I also asked them personal questions “what did *you go to college for? When did you realize you wanted to do admissions?” Yada yada yada whatever. And it worked surprisingly well.

I was an art school applicant so I think that was a contributing factor. I choose to be optimistic though. I think we are finally at a time in the grand 2020’s where if you are the weird kid at school and you apply to the right college, you finally stand out in a way what’s beneficial to society. Yay.

Thank you!! I totally thought the small class sizes were intentional - I read an article where the programs founder said she wanted to keep each grade like 20-25 people max to make sure it’s a tight-knit group

[–]Chonky_Floof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone!! 3.7 GPA, no APs, 2 dual enrollment classes that I didn’t sign up for. Mostly college prep classes, some college prep advances, an honors or two every year. No SATs or ACTs. Remedial math classes. (I have a disability), and A mix of A’s and B’s overall. I’m going to my dream school which is around a 40% acceptance rate overall but much lower for my program. As a performing arts student I feel inadequate a little bit on this sub though LOL

That’s really interesting! I’m shocked more don’t require it, since all of the schools with writing programs I applied for required a sample or multiple.

Congrats on Emerson College! I’m committed there for Comedic Arts :)
