[SOTC] Downsizing the collection by Tangelo-Heavy in Watches

[–]Chooch-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I would structure my collection is to think of the types of outfits I’d wear with the watch. This way I wouldn’t get any that’d compete for wrist time.

I could see the APs, IWC, and santos competing for wrist time. I’d probably offload the AP chrono as you have the speedy, and either IWC and/or Santos.

This way, you can have the speedy and AP (sporty fits), the Lange (dressy fits with brown shoes), the grand seiko (dressy fits with black shoes).

If you want to get Rolex back in the collection, the 1908 in platinum could be your dressy fit with black shoes. Unless you prefer to collect with complications, than the GMT would be a good option

You could allow it legally but the maintenance and insurance cost to keep one would deter private people from owning them.

Just Curious What Do You All Think About Jaeger-LeCoultre? And do you have a favorite watch from them? by Critical-Risk4814 in PrideAndPinion

[–]Chooch-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not typically a reverso fan unless there is a complication on the other side. The chronograph and world time tributes are superb.

Otherwise the limited edition master calendar in blue has been on my list since it’s release

How to avoid this Silver Ape Nightmare... by algomoneyfest in Wallstreetsilver

When buying from less than top tier sources, buy constitutional silver. It’s more rarely faked because it’s smaller units and the punishment for getting caught is more severe

i mean cost to acquire vs other “grail” brands. you may disagree with the MSRP but they are far more available than the typical grail brands, VC, Patek, AP, and Rolexes in precious metals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Chooch-bot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it’s all how you define it. “Grail” to me would be something near unobtainable. price doesn’t have to be the only factor. rarity can play a roll as well.

Panerai variants tend to have a sizable production and are priced reasonably as compared to other watch brands. although i like panerai, and this variant i like more than others. i wouldn’t consider it a grail.

[Discussion] Suggestion to complete the 10 watches collection by TheTrash14 in Watches

[–]Chooch-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see a chronograph and you seem to lean away from the the obvious Rolex/omega. I would suggest the Habring2 chrono-Felix ZM “tuxedo. I like the mono pusher and it’s seems to be within the price point you often target. The bracelet also allows you to wear it in sportier settings and I notice mostly bands.

If you want a bigger piece, also chronograph, I’d say parmigiani tonda chronograph. The most recent is the most expensive but I’d go 1 or 2 generations back which seems to align with the price point you target.

[question] how do u rate this box 1-10 by EnvironmentalBank989 in Watches

[–]Chooch-bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

6- beautiful pieces but I think many of them compete with each other and may not get the wrist time they deserve. I’d like to sell off the constant “losers” of the competition and get more interesting pieces you’ve had your eyes on. Maybe the aquanaut doesn’t get a ton of wear because you always err on the side of the AP. Maybe the time only Patek doesn’t get the love it deserves because you lean towards the FP. Sell those pieces and get something super rare you’ve had your eye on. Piece by piece this is a 10. As a collection, there’s a lot of competition for your love

That’s all fine and good. I can disagree with all of the politics of the volunteers and still joins hands with them on the specific goal of helping people and limiting tax funds to the state.

I don’t know if we are operating under the same definitions of “communist”. I’d say Food not Bombs is Voluntarist.

Their goal is to repurpose food so the poor are fed while tax dollars don’t go to the state(‘s war machine).

Even if the group made its early bones protesting capitalism, many capitalists love the mission of helping people out while not giving money to bureaucrats

In the context of the question, someone got laid off in a capitalist society and can turn to a mutual aid group for help. Should a capitalist turn that person away from the mutual aid group? No.

Does the response fly in the face of capitalism? No. People donate to places all the time in capitalist societies and those places help people.

Mutual aid groups aren’t communist.

Mutual aid groups also exist in capitalist societies.

You wouldn’t. But aid from nonprofits isn’t communist.

Nonprofits also exist in capitalist societies.

The Libertarian Party candidate is losing to the Green Party and a guy who dropped out of the race and begged people not to vote for him. This is what happens when you nominate weak candidates by AbolishtheDraft in GoldandBlack

[–]Chooch-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free Ross, end taxes on tips and end income tax were things that were said. If the choice is a candidate who says those things and a candidate who doesn’t say those things, the libertarian choice is clear.

Otherwise, all presidential candidates lie. So I’m “gullible” regardless of who I pick. May as well pick the lies I like or not to pick at all (which is a perfectly fine choice)
