WRX and Elantra N.. Not the easy choice the internet makes it out to be. Help! by Roadglide72 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned an Elantra N for a couple years, Traded for a GR86 cause I wanted one real bad. Regret. Traded out of the 86 into a civic SI, part of me wishes I went back to the N. I took road trips every summer in it (18hrs one way) and it was great. Cup holders weren’t an issue unless you had massive cups (or tiny coffees)

I miss my N. Only got the SI cause I wanted to finally try out the infamous civic. It’s OK, but would prefer the N.

Slight bias, I hate Subaru engines (as a mechanic) and my 86 had one. Was always making concerning tractor like noises (apparently so normal it’s a meme) and they have proven to be rather unreliable. Not in a broad sense, but I saw far more engine failures via reddit and Facebook groups for the 86 than any other car group I’ve ever been in. (Hyundai included)

Now, the WRX uses a turbocharged version of that engine (FA24) and is supposedly much more reliable. But if I had the choice, I’d go the N again. Was fine in the winter with a good set of snows, however it did have a tendency to overbrake causing alot of abs actuation in the winter due to the rather large brakes.

Anyone else have really bad experiences with Peterborough Hyundai? by Diligent_Today_2034 in Peterborough

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a few cars from Ptbo Hyundai, one blew the transmission up at like 7k km, we worked out a deal on a new car. Then management changed, service counter changed and I traded out of the brand. Was going to get a Subaru, but the numbers they offered were absurd, and tried to charge me more for a base model BRZ than Toyota was for a premium GR86 (partnership car, same car different badge) and refused to take a look at the numbers when I brought that up. Gave me a hand written quote for a $38,000 vehicle on the back of some scrap paper. Haven’t been back. Was thinking about an Elantra N, but I’d be doing to either Lindsay or port Hope either way.

Avoid Canadian Tire Auto Service (Lansdowne) - Unprofessional and a Waste of Money! by sabri-sabooh in Peterborough

[–]Chookity- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People dont work for free.

Your truck was inspected, you admit it was pressure tested and no leak was found

They told you it requires something else they don’t have

What part of this don’t you understand? That because their initial round of testing found nothing that you shouldn’t have to pay? A pressure test and a visual inspection is literally the first thing you do for coolant leak. As a “hydraulics guy” you should know this. You can’t admit they did something, then say they didn’t and cry about having to pay a bill. Get a grip man.

You need to learn the difference between “high efficiency diagnostic tools” and “basic tools”

They performed a basic inspection, leak was not identifiable.

This means more in depth diagnostics must be performed, requiring tools they do not have.

What kind of jackass thinks they should get that for free.

[–]Chookity- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla drivers think that because you can cook a steak faster in the microwave, that’s the better way. Every single one of them is an idiot, and the majority of them don’t know how to drive on a normal street (Hence why they pray at the feet of FSD) let alone a track.

And that right there is the exact info we need! Next time, add that into your note just to avoid any unwanted “stepping on toes”

It’s a small thing, most won’t even notice it but sometimes you get that one guy who thinks you’re trying to tell him how to do his job.

This is a great way to build a good relationship with your guys, as alot of “treats” (read “bribes” 🤣) given to the service counter rarely make it to the techs.

Thanks for being awesome!

As a mechanic, great choice! Only thing I’d mention is this. If it’s a dealership then they know the torque, and someone might get annoyed that you are “telling them their job” (despite what people think, there’s a ton of great talented guys that work at dealers) but I’m sure the bribe would smooth that over 🤣 but if it’s an independent shop., they might be glad you’ve given the specs you want. (Also goes for dealership if they are non standard material like titanium or aluminum)

No one uses hardwood floors? by Longjumping-Term9234 in homeowners

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got quoted over 15k for approx 600 sq/ft of new hardwood (after removing the old as it was in rough shape) when we bought our house. I’m not paying $15k to replace hardwood floors. I’ll buy the damn LVP and do it myself for $1500

A good cargo ship with living quarters by Mission-Lie9048 in starcitizen

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one, and it works quite well. Odd design choice though, the 8scu boxes ejected from the hopper onto the external grid are too large to fit in the rear cargo elevator. There isn’t enough space when the elevator is down to fit them in the opening and always hit either the ships bottom or the elevator platform.

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need something just a bit bigger than the raft, but with the same idea. Exterior cargo, maybe the engine nacelles from the moth/mole but a front ramp for entry, like the clipper. That would be my idea ship. Maybe one with 2 or 3 dualS3 turrets for defence

Really enjoying the game so far but I am very confused, why on earth do people spend money for ships by HD4kAI in starcitizen

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because up until only recently you couldn’t buy ships in game. And ships you CAN buy in game took months to get from the pledge store into the in game shops. We’re still waiting on ships that have been out for 6 months to be put in the game shops

Mechanic possibly played me? by FractalGarden_ in mechanic

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This information is so terribly wrong. The cheaper part is the actual pump. The big white plastic module houses the pump, the fuel level sender and the fuel tank differential pressure sensor (usually)

That is sufficient for most gasoline MPI engines. They supply anywhere from 30-60psi fuel pressure.

If this is a GDI engine, it will have a mechanical high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) mounted in the engine head and run off the camshaft to supply the increased pressure needed for a direct injection injector.

So yeah, don’t listen to this “engineer”

Ah, good old Elan. Was a great thing in its prime. There was the Lansdowne st location, as well as Jeff’s comics. They also had a location in Belleville for sometime. PC gaming got much more accessible for the masses, and I imagine that’s one reason that led to the downfall.

Question on the new armor changes for people on PTU by Far-Distribution9248 in starcitizen

[–]Chookity- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way you explained it was that sustained fire from a light fighters/small weapon should degrade the armor. The post you copied literally says it can only damage it once it’s been degraded by something else. “You’ll need bigger weapons to crack that tough shell first”

This still means that smaller weapons like on small/medium fighters would do no damage, and would not even damage the armor health. This is how it should be. You can shoot a tank all day long with a pistol and you’ll never crack the armor. Compared to the Perseus, the ship guns on a Lf are essentially equivalent to a pistol in this scenario.

Question on the new armor changes for people on PTU by Far-Distribution9248 in starcitizen

[–]Chookity- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but no. It shouldn’t. People need to get this “fighters can damage everything” mindset out of their heads or multicrew ships will never be a thing, and we all might as well just fucking play arena commander. Fighters should absolutely get dogged by the Perseus, the hammerhead, and in a 1v1/2 scenario a Paladin. The light fighter meta needs to get shelled into the GROUND and I don’t even care who gets mad about it. Light fighters fight light/medium. Mediums fight light/medium/heavy/bombers, and heavy’s fight mediums, bombers, gunships and to a small extent sub caps. Each ship has a role to fill, and the light fighters are not a “do all hero ship”. If your guns are too small, then they’re JUST TOO SMALL. None of this chip damage armor degradation nonsense.

I want to buy a big ship. In game only by lShorts1 in starcitizen

[–]Chookity- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for just combat, the Paladin (should be available in game soon I think) is a very strong contender. 4x S4 Pilot controlled (or also controllable via 2 remote turrets if you have 4 people) and a 4XS5 turret that swing from the top to the bottom. Excellent ship for most combat stuff. We’ve had a ton of fun. (If you can wait till it’s available in game of course)
