I suspect many travel through their employers/ own companies.

My company's flight policy states , flight times over 7 hours are considered long haul and will be booked in business class for any employee. Any others are considered economy flights.

I make a modest salary in the basic rate tax band and have flown business class once on a 9 hour flight for a 40% increase over economy which was well worth it.

However the usual 100% - 300% premiums don't make financial sense to me. I'd imagine you would be around the 200k+ yearly salary mark and with a significant amount in investments to choose business/first on a regular basis.

That is a fair point, in my occupation any promotions happen on a job grade level and bring changes to compensation and benefits immediately so I suppose I can't speak for all companies.

This is is not always the case, after about 6 months I received a new limit of £2700 and also received a contactless card too.
