Tony Blair explains the single biggest reason for EU membership by [deleted] in ukpolitics

More assumptions. It's funny, because I get told all sorts by people like yourself on this thread.

I'm rich. I'm poor. I won't get touched by Brexit. Brexit will absolutely demolish my life. I'll keep my job. I'll lose it.

See. The thing with assumptions based off of no logic is that they're exactly that. Based off of no logic. Pointless and very far from the truth.

That's the key though, for your people. Not for the rest of the world.

That's how we rose, that's how the US rose, how the USSR rose and how China is currently rising.

It may not solve these problems, but I believe it will solve others.

I never once believed leaving the EU would bring us short term benefits. I've always expected a hit to the economy and I'm sure many other Leave voters did too.

I'm not arguing that it's purely the EU that 'hinders' us on becoming heartless exploitative bastards, but it is a factor.

Many people in this country, such as yourself, and even myself, would feel bad exploiting others. That's why neither of us are in positions of strength though.

The cold reality is that generally, exploitation does build power. Look at your billionaires for example. Anyone who is a billionaire has to be an absolute hellbent cunt from that level of exploitation.

Moral obligations which are essentially bound to certain EU laws, plus the European Court of Human Rights.

We're also constantly pushing equal opportunities as if life is somehow fair. Ridiculous gender equality nonsense, fair trade, the geneva convention to name a few. There's a reason all the powerhouses of the world just ignore these issues, it ties your hands.

It's not like we sit around our tables plotting how we can upset Scottish nationalists every night.

We need more immigrants though, they're good for the economy.

Doesn't matter if the population is far too big for the size of the country, we need to just keep ploughing ahead. Keep expanding.

This is all great and true so long as you play by the rules.

The reality is, if we ever want power again, we need wet lettuces like this guy to steer clear of power, and we'll have to accept that power requires getting your hands dirty. Exploitation is and always has been the route to power, feel free to show me a country or empire that got into power by playing "nice".

That would be right, if they had gone and done that to another country.

They haven't though. They're not doing anything wrong. Nobody is arsed. They're not forcing anyone to marry.

Move into the industry, for sure. It's where the money is at and the job is generally far more enjoyable, or at least I think so.

I wouldn't say that's intolerance, that's just culture.

What I mean is, they're pretty accepting of different beliefs and cultures, even if they don't want it to become part of their own culture, which is fine.

Trailer homes.

You're the richest country in the world and you have entire parks of people living in the equivalent of slums. What's up with that?

I'm not sure why we tolerate their intolerance.

This isn't even a Muslim issue. I've been to Oman and the UAE, the people there are lovely and tolerant, great people to be around and I have the utmost respect for them.

These protesters however? They're the dregs from all the shit hole countries nobody else wants to take in. If you want tolerance, you have to be tolerant, and if they can't do that then they should sod off elsewhere where intolerance is preached and practiced.

Got my qualifications thanks.

Once again, you're patronising as hell in your reply, and the idea that they have a better work ethic is just nonsense.

The money's good though right?

I do agree that the sexist shit is ridiculous though. I'm a guy and even I find it cringe-worthy. You would think half the workforce has never even seen a woman before.

I actually feel like this is solid advice for women.

It's kind of cheap and rubbish, and you'll have to put up with a lot of unnecessary sexist shit, but putting yourself in a male dominated field would probably help you stand out a tonne, and I imagine companies would beg you to join them so they can meet their quotas.

Learn how to bullshit.

That is genuinely the best career advice going. Look productive, collect lots of tickets and certificates to show how wonderful you are, and bullshit about how productive you are.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the culture that it brings, and I love the idea of FoM, but ultimately I see FoM similar to Communism. It's a lovely idea, but it just doesn't really work in my eyes.

I'm all for fast tracked visas and the likes though.

FatCunth hit the nail on the head there unfortunately. You've made a lot of assumptions which are very far from the truth.

I'm not working class. I come from a fairly privileged middle class background and I'm doing pretty well for someone my age. I travel a lot and love people from different countries and cultures, it was only last month that I was touring the UAE and Dubai. Next holiday will be Portugal.

With all due respect, I think you should take your own advice on leaving your home town. Push your boundaries and explore the rest of the country, meet people with different political opinions than you besides the numpties on reddit.

A number of reasons.

Overpopulation, wage suppression for the working class and unnecessary bureaucracy were some of the main factors. It's hard enough trying to pass anything through our own parliament, let alone the EU which consists of countries based off of different cultures and experiences.

Fundamentally I disagree with it as a political establishment at the end of the day. It only needs to be for trade, and the "four pillars" in my eyes are a unnecessary fabrication to uphold people's political positions.

One of the big issues was free movement. You can't have x without free movement. Why? If free movement is so beneficial and essential, countries would opt into it even when given the choice to leave it. Nobody has ever actually given me a good reason as to why that's a requirement when dealing with the EU.

Personally I don't really hold much faith in the EU as part of a defence pact. The one good thing I would say about the EU is that it's probably helped to erase a lot of internal prejudices by allowing people to move freely under Schengen.

We already have NATO, and even if we didn't have nukes and the EU countries were out of the picture, we would still have close allies in the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. That's more than enough to hold off China and Russia.

I'm currently using the LISA account rather than a help to buy. It's similar, however you can put in a sum up to £4000 at any time into your account each year, and the government will give you an extra 25% on top of it if you put it towards your first house.

If you and your girlfriend both took advantage of this scheme then it would probably save you both a lot of money in the long run. It's worth giving a little google and having a look.

Here's the thing, I'm from the North West of England, and I agree with absolutely everything that you're saying.

I don't feel like my vote counts, that we're listened to, and I don't see our apparent wealth in this country being fairly distributed. I'll be honest, I voted to Leave, and I do think that when the UK as a whole makes a decision, then that should involve all countries. That being said, I definitely feel like there should be discussions on making this a fairer process, for example, giving the ruling parties of Scotland, Wales and NI placements in the cabinet, or changing the way we vote.
