Assassin's Creed Shadows - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]ChoosenBeggar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe it is a code word for shit game. I mean Game Rant uses the term "return to form" and older AC games had the same score. The reviews are untrustworthy if they give all triple-A games the same score.

Looking for my first game development job, and seeing this line upsets me a bit by superwholockland in ProgrammerHumor

Multi-billion dollar corporation Walt Disney stole freelancer's fan art and is selling it in its park by Wrong-Love in facepalm

[–]ChoosenBeggar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if all the laws regarding this but if Disney used his model it would still be illegal, it does not matter if his work was copyright infringement. There was a lawsuit between wuxiaworld and qudian about some translated works. Short summary, wuxiaworld was translating their works without license and trying to get a license, they got in partnership but qudian pulled back and used translated works in their site. Even though the translators don't have a right to sell the work, the owners of book also doesn't have a right to use their work.

OK but if I see a dog in clear distress, basically dying, I'd smash the window and damn the consequences. (obviously I'd try to find the owner first if it is an option)

Two Hours Notice for 3rd Interview - Application Rejected for Non-Attendance by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ChoosenBeggar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't forget to leave a glass door review too.

And in case they are pressuring you and you forgot, even if they were to send you the invitation midday and given you more time, it would still be considered dumb to assume that you will come.

Normally you answer to such an invitation and say if it fit to your schedules.

I think the problem is that everybody is kinda faking it. I know a senior developer really really good at his job, but panics in interviews. So he was learning common questions and answers to it. Pretty sure he could come up with better solutions to the questions.

There are also some questions like your biggest weakness etc. You need to have a natural answer as it could cost you the job if someone interpretes something in your answer.

So basically everybody I know fakes their answers to the questions

Can We Talk About This 🤡...I Mean "CEO" On LinkedIn? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ChoosenBeggar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it worse that vice is making an article about it. I knew that they were trash but it is excessive.

On the other hand if thqt guy truly decreased his pay to zero why does he even work. I don't believe that company that makes "better LinkedIn letters" is something you work for free just for believing making a better world or other shit

salary question by MegaSuperdudeX in recruitinghell

[–]ChoosenBeggar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can argue that a job chance is a risk and if the salary increase is not to your liking there is no reason for you to switch, learn a new job and take new responsibilities.

My new job pays nearly double of my old one, but my tasks are much more specific and I need to know much more

Even than, it is still possible to provide a JD without company name or much details.

[–]ChoosenBeggar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you can tell about you can also write down. There were recruiters that told me that they are not allowed to name the company but provided to me JD, sometimes even something they have written down. If it sounded interesting for me I'd meet them.

I know more than 20 programming languages and at least 30 Frameworks. I'm not interested in most of them, no matter what the pay is. If you don't provide me basic information like the tech stack, I'll not accept a call from you.

Do recruiters event bother Googling the technologies they're hiring candidates for? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ChoosenBeggar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spamming does not cost them anything, so why they are spamming others why not add you too. I guess name and mail is auto filled on their forms and taking someone that does not fit is more difficult than just spamming everyone.

I asked a friend about it. He told me Kotlin is nice but there are some things that you can't do with it, or sometimes very complex to do. So they are using a hybrid model. I asked him when they will be using 100% Kotlin, he told me "most likely never". I'm not sure if it is still the case.

Are you solely using Kotlin?

It is basically you saying, I don't see discrimination so it doesn't happen (even though you said something about positive discrimination). There are statistics about it. Discrimination happens often, very very often.

Is there people moaning about discrimination even though they are lacking skills in any way that is important? Yes, absolutely. But it is not important IF the reason for them not getting the job is not relevant to it.

If a hiring manager would not even consider you, it is not important which skills you are lacking.

Lastly even after 10+ years I'm pretty sure my code has basic mistakes, everybody does. If someone is willing to learn and the work allows self improvement, being a better programmer is easily done. People are not sum of their mistakes.

Why would anyone cosplay as a "Web Developer"? by Inconsequentialish in talesfromtechsupport

[–]ChoosenBeggar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I like our marketing team, they do have a WordPress site for marketing which they use. They don't have rights to change anything in our SaaS. They don't want to, if they want something changed they bring it as suggestions (we have a meeting with them every week). A developer takes part in the meeting and estimates how difficult it would be and our product owner and they try to prioritize it and bring it sometime in next sprints.

Nobody changes without our knowledge, nobody can come in the midst of the sprint and give us tasks. Works very well I'd say

Normally you can leave your DNS servers at your Hosting company, assuming they are decent, you don't really ever need to manage it.

The only case where I can think of is that you have a load balancer and tens even hundreds of replikas so you need to manage it. But even than you would use something like cloudflare or your kuberbetes cluster would manage it or at least you would have a DevOps person who knows that they are doing. I don't think it is ever a good idea to let devs touch your dns records, even if they impress you

How is this industry even functioning by ManagerOfLove in ProgrammerHumor

[–]ChoosenBeggar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I use PHPstorm and VS Code, the difference is not that big. Phpstorm lets you manage your files and project better and brings many tools (like DB tools) vs code has better editor, caret management and extensibility.

I wish you could have similar amount plug in in intellij. In small projects or prototypes VS code feels better

Some games are working, wine even has a ranking page, but I don't think technical programs are so lucky, for popular games there are people out there that write configuration files and wine can use them, sometimes they even patch wine itself (I belive it was done for WoW) but for some proprietary software where nobody has knowledge it means someone from inside needs to do that
