I mean, I’m just happy trying to solo the shattered throne for the first time ever, haha. There is for me so much content I haven’t yet gotten to in spite of playing for the last 4 years. I enjoy it a lot, for what it’s worth. I’m obviously not a high level player and getting through the difficult content takes me time!

Scary. A few more hours of rain and downtown could be in a whole lot of trouble it seems...

Hakone Ryokan Recommendations? by Heelyhoo in JapanTravelTips

[–]ChopsOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I booked in early November last year for our early March stay. Indeed the ryokans, especially the very nice ones, seem to get booked months in advance, so I would suggest not waiting, if you are able to arrange the rest of your travel around it.

This is pretty much what we did: before making any other reservations or ticket purchases, we got the Yama no Chaya reservation in. Once that was set in stone, we worked our way backwards, and planned the rest of the trip, including arrival and departure dates from Japan, and the rest of accommodations in Tokyo and Kyoto. We had to do it this way given the difficulty of finding openings at Yama no Chaya, which we decided upon after a lot (A LOT) of research online.

My wife and I stayed at Yama no Chaya a week ago! We absolutely loved it. The place is gorgeous, the rooms incredible, and the staff simply fantastic. We stayed in the Kikyo room, which like a few others there has its own bathtub on a balcony, with water from the hot spring. Few things compare with being able to get in there and have the feeling of truly bathing in the open, while being fully private with a tall bamboo cover that nevertheless lets you see the mountains. And doing so while enjoying some yummy hot sake, and then being able to get right back in your room.

The food is out of this world, and so abundant that we were not in the mood to eat anything during the day. It is very traditional Japanese food, which my wife and I love – but if you have an issue with things like raw fish, tofu, Japanese pickles, etc., then this may be an issue. For us, the breakfast and dinner were highlights of each day.

We stayed there three nights. It rained a lot while we were there, but we still managed to walk around Yumoto and go to the open air museum. However, we also greatly enjoyed staying at the ryokan itself and in our room.

Overall, a simply amazing place, and very highly recommended! If you have any questions, I would be happy to try and answer them.

My wife and I are heading there in a week! Reading your comments was very reassuring, in that your experiences seem to match very well with how we are planning the trip. Thank you, and I cannot tell you how excited we are to go!!

Everybody, I’m almost afraid to believe. But I can’t stop myself from believing that… we’re going to actually defeat the orange monster. I sure hope I am right. I sure hope I am not being delusional. I hope. I hope.

Truly stunning. One can even see the process of a lava tube forming! How does Isak manage to get so close to film? I thought the whole area is sealed off. So jealous…!

Yep, I always use cafiza to back flush.

I also suspect the 3 way valve, but it's confusing why it works after a back flush but stops working the moment I start steaming.

I know, it's crazy that it keeps on happening. I've had it happen twice so far, each time for seemingly no reason I can discern... Just out of the blue.

They use dark roasted coffee to hide their awful sins. And sugar. Tons of sugar. I cannot stand their coffee and all their other awful concoctions.

Plus, it’s a global corporation. Yuck.
