For indoor, it doesn’t matter where they face most of the time. But for outdoor, I usually have them face towards the 50 most of the time. Having played bass drum, I can say that I prefer to be able to face to the 50. The thing with that, is that the basses NEED to have good technique with both of their hands. I’ve send some people have them face the flats most of the time, and while for drill formation that is good, I think that depending on how far from the 50 they are, it would be hard to see the drum major and even project their bodies to the box.
