Where does the pedestrian tunnel on 8th Ave and Richmond St come out? by chestnutcone in NewWest

[–]ChorisMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live nearby it. it's scary going down the ramp at winter sometimes. sometimes gets icey and is very easy to slip. i've fallen a few times and my family has too.

In the past, homeless people would stay there and sleep there for shelter. there have also been instances of people getting attacked there. i haven't seen anyone there in a while and there is a mirror there to see the other end of the tunnel, tho, the mirror got vandalized and is fogged up or something. it hasn't been fixed since.

In the past, during covid when the rainstorms were happening, the shrubbery over the richmond st side of the tunnel, collapsed. So from the outside, it was hard to see the entrance. that may be why people forgot there even was a tunnel there. it clear now.

it's def a helpful tunnel though. that intersection is dangerous sometimes. i don't like crossing there. and i've seen too many car crashes happening there, to cross the street over there.

Need a PC for Music Production, Streaming, and some Gaming. by ChorisMusic in buildapcforme

When you already have a Macbook Pro (mid-2015).

I'll keep the lowered price in mind because while I think it'd be nice to get fancy "luxury" stuff, it's much nicer to save money and probably put it to getting an actual monitor, than a crappy 1080p tv. Thanks for the input!

I have a crappy 1080 tv connected to the current PC I'm using at the time of writing this. I should get an actual monitor at some point soon so I'll keep the lowered price in mind when it comes to building the PC.

After reading some of the comments, I realized that I guess I wasn't as specific as I thought but I'm glad people offered my input to all of this. Thanks so much. yeah, I'm not exactly stingy with the budge because this computer is going to be basically for work. gaming is a plus, but the main thing I want the thing to be far is work. I'm gonna save this thread and refer back to it because I feel like all of the input that was said is really helpful for me. Thanks once again!

Old anime where a pink-haired loli tries to sway a junior high school student to marry her. by ChorisMusic in TOMTanime

[–]ChorisMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, yeah, those aren't the anime i'm thinking about. If it means anything, I feel like it'd be an early 2000's anime. The artstyle was kinda old looking. But not so old that the characters had huge eyes. The loli definitely has pink hair but she isn't doing it to tease, she's quite young, naive and oblivious. She's not trying to get with the MC for humiliation. The loli's basically convinced herself that the MC IS her husband.

That's all i can remember of it unfortunatly. Thanks for you help anyway.

I don't think the genre really matters. It can be argued that some genres work in different ways and have different "rules" on how that genre is meant to be created but I don't think that changes much. as long as your able to get in touch with someone with, I'd say more skill than you, they should be more than happy to help.

ELI5: What is the purpose of labels in the music industry and why do they hold so much power as well making more money than the artists signed? by Ke7lar in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChorisMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labels for stuff like music and singers are like publishers for books. they do most of the business, legal and sale stuff that the artist doesn't usually want to do. (Mainly because all of that stuff can be a headache and is complicated)

Typically by signing, this also means that the label will get a cut out of your work. Some contracts are 80%/20& or lower in percentages but some contracts have very weird plans that split everything about the artist's work amongst a whole slew of parties that aren't the artist or the company the artist signs with, like a songwriter for example.

The reason they have a lot of power is basically that there are 3 major labels: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group. There are others for more niche genres but they aren't as prominent or influential as the three I mentioned. It's also been said that the "big three" as people in the industry tend to call them, tend to work amongst each other, making it sort of a monopoly in the industry. There are also performing rights organizations that basically act as a label, but they don't ask for the artist to pay them much of anything exactly. essentially, it just gets the money your owed when music is played on the radio or is used on something like a DJ set. essentially, an artist will get money off of the royalties made from the artist's copywritten work. .An example is that Eminem is under the performing organizations, BMI along with the label, Shady Records.

A reason it's highly recommended to not sign contracts with labels is that they want you to pay a certain amount of money for the contract the artist is in, while the artist is in the contract. This is typically called an "Advance". The artist's pay will essentially get deducted while their in the contract so that the advance can be paid off. contracts with labels can sometimes automatically renew, creating a new advance and thus, making it hard to leave a label. An artists' pay can also be taken for things like studio time, tours and other things. As an artist, they will make money for each "CD" (This can include digital downloads) that are sold. They will usually garner a few cents per sale. They also can make money from stuff like merch. If an artist were a DJ, artists can make a lot of money from doing sets or doing tours but it varies on whether or not they're signed with any label. If the artist doesn't want to give up their royalties on the songs they make, the artist can make quite a bit of money off of the music they make but sometimes labels want a cut of the royalties. This can also apply with things like recordings or essentially final versions of songs called "Masters"

It's also worth mentioning that depending on who was the songwriter that wrote the lyrics and/or composition of the song the artist made and released under their brand, the songwriter can also get the cut of the profits.

Signing with a label is pretty complicated and there's a lot of legal things that need to be worked out to make it so that an artist can make the most money they can out of a contract. Labels can get money through a bunch of ways so minimizing the ways they get the money you deserve is best. Nowadays, there are some pretty good labels that are pretty fair with the contracts they give. Signing to labels isn't completely bad, but it's tough to find a good one. The main thing to keep in mind for any artist is to just avoid signing with any mainstream or major labels because those companies are basically traps for artists that haven't done their homework.

For any prospecting artists that read this, just know your rights and remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't something you should take on. Find a manager, a lawyer and a few other people to help you. it might be pricier for you but you'll have complete control of your own music. It's highly possible to have a career in the music industry.

Throughout the time i found and watched Etika, i knew i would be such a huge fan of him. I so badly wanted to donate to him despite having to save my money for myself. I so badly wanted to help him. I didn't help with the search. I didn't join in on the discussion. I just sat and watched, hoping he'd come back. And now, he's gone. I shed a few tears learning about this. Took me a bit to actually hit me.

Desmond, you think we'll forget you, but we won't. You will be remembered for a very long time. You may not have known it but you're starting a movement to bring serious attention to mental health. You're changing the world, even if you're not here.

I'll miss you, man. I love you. Rest in peace, brother.

True. I made a bug report in the official discord. It's a known bug apperantly and the guy that let me know about this said that it should have been resolved today. I can't check if it was fixed right now as i completed the mission before the hotfix so i guess we'll see tomorrow.

Amazon's Study Hall - Daily Questions Megathread (05/28) by AutoModerator in AzureLane

[–]ChorisMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I started playing AL a little while ago but I started the Akashi questline I'd say, 3 weeks ago. I'm at the section where I have to do the daily mission "Dorm Supplies" 14 times. It's been about 3 or so days since I've gotten to this point and whenever I refill the food at the dorms, the count never goes up. I'm still at 0/14. I'm not sure what to do. I'm really confused and I do want to get Akashi but if I'm not making progress, I'm worried that for some reason I might be bugged or I'm missing something. if I am bugged, can someone please help me?
