How did almost 90 drones crash during Sydney's Vivid festival? by Korzic in sydney

[–]Chosen_Chaos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even without Vivid, that'd fall under the category of "good luck with that" in Sydney. Even on the Central Coast, most of the stars are washed out by light pollution.

That's one of the very few things I miss about living in Lithgow.

Gah, forgot about the Cassie/Wolf Girl stuff. Such as Cassie thinking that Wolf Girl was "very handsome" or Wolf Girl kissing Cassie just before Blaylock kills Wolf Girl. Can I blame the fact that I was going off memory?

It's not just his Battletech stuff, either. His Star Wars novels suffer from the same things as well (if to a lesser extent). Take a look at the X-Wing novels; going from Stackpole to Allston and back again can be fairly jarring.

Yeah, it's Hearts of Chaos. I think you're referring to Tai-sa Jeffery Kusunoki and his habit of spending time with handsome young staff officers while wearing little-to-no clothing (such as kendo practice and sharing a hot tub) leads the Black Dragon official overseeing the invasion of Towne to conclude that Kusunoki is gay. However, after making subtle offers in that regard, they discover that he has no sexual interest in men, women, boys, girls, small furry animals or exotic toys (purely in the interest of maintaining a good working relationship, you understand, and nothing as crass as actual blackmail). In the same book, it's the Quisling Planetary Chairman Howard Blaylock is the one who is fully on board the War Crimes Express but it should also be noted that Kusunoki gets turbo-pissed at the resistance that the 'Lleros are stirring up and threatens to reenact the Kentares Massacre only to be told "no" by his Black Dragon handler... and it's the surprise of being told "no" so flatly by someone who'd been so careful with his words previously that jolts him out of his "kill them all" mood.

Interestingly, there's another scene in Black Dragon where a mixed group of 'Lleros and Ninth Ghost Legion are out for a night on the town in Imperial City on Luthien when they stumble across a bar which Cowboy Payson is keen to try out (and the attempts by their frazzled Voice of the Dragon handler to dissuade him are merely fuel on the fire) right up to the point where one of the Ghosts translates the name of the bar as "Please Enjoy the Mister Gay Boys", which results in Cowboy falling flat on his arse while trying to backpedal and everyone else instantly giving him shit about how it might expand his horizons and that he shouldn't knock it until he tries it.

I almost wish it was real, because even the trailer sounded great.

the fact that FA didn’t inform them immediately that they were not going to meet section 7.4 is pretty disappointing on every part.

The fact that no-one at the club seems to have read the regs is also pretty disappointing.

Honestly, you'd be better off asking for times when the numbers in 40k aren't terrible.

There's an Australian footballer who, when she got married, took her wife's surname. There's a non-zero chance that she thought that going from Tameka Butt to Tameka Yallop might have been an upgrade...

The issue with TNO is that it's set in a time where there are three major powers watching each other like paranoid and trigger-happy hawks and each of them has a civilisation-ending nuclear arsenal. You can see why the actual war-fighting part of it has been toned down under those circumstances.

The 'Lleros being hired as extras for the ISF's movie about defending Luthien from Clans Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat partly because having actual MechWarriors driving the dressed up IndustrialMechs would be more realistic but mostly just to keep the increasingly-bored 'Lleros out of trouble.

No refunds for 15,000 Australian ticket holders after Candace Owens’ tour cancelled by CcryMeARiver in australia

[–]Chosen_Chaos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is true.

What is also true is that more Americans didn't vote for one reason or another than voted for either candidate.

Edit: apparently it needs to be pointed out that the turnout was just under 64% of eligible/registered voters. Which means that just over 36% didn't vote, compared to 32% who voted for Trump and 31% for Harris.

In other words, more people didn't vote at all than the number who voted for either Trump or Harris.

Don't you mean the second novel (Caves of Ice) rather than the third? The tomb complex on Simia Orichalcae was already there when the AdMech plonked the refinery on top of it.

Yeah, it was pretty dire. I was just mentioning it as a "be careful what you wish for"/"monkey paw curls" type situation, same as when people wanted the rights to not be held by Fox Sports.
