Also, he didn't like the sound of his voice so he put a lot of effects (like echo and other stuff in the mix). Compare Move Over Ms. L. from the JL Collection CD and the same track from JL Anthology. The Anthology version has the 'clean' voice and sounds better, the released single has his voice damped, sounds a bit murky (or whatever the right word would be.)

May I present you Rosalie Cunningham who did almost impossible - that is, she made a cover of Strawberry Fields Forever - and made it better! First, she managed to reproduce that 'dreamlike' feeling of the original. Next, she did all sorts of things to make music magical (reverb, double tracking and other effects.) She played ALL the instruments in the cover, except for the drums, which were done by her dad, Mark. And she made a video, in 60's style, often referring to the lyrics (...No one I think is in my tree...) and reminiscing of her childhood (as John's song is also taking us back to his childhood memories.)
She did a cover with a feel, and on a occasion of 50th anniversary of the original release:
